I can actually remember when I got my nes thanks to Super Mario 2. My Neighbor Got Mario 2 the day it came out, and after watching him play it I begged and begged for a Nintendo. I got one that Christmas! So, the game came out Oct 1988, and I got an NES a couple months later for Christmas.

    December 25th 1988!!!

My parents bought me mine in 1988. They gave it to me on a Friday, which meant all I had to play for a whole week was Mario and Duck Hunt. I wasn't expecting anything the next Friday, but I came home to Legend Of Zelda and Wizards and Warriors on my bed. I was amazed at how huge Zelda was. That music will always be burned in my memory. Wizards and Warriors? Ehh, not as much. Still like it though.

I can't remember the exact year, but I know it was in the 80's. I remember buying one with Super Mario Bros. It wasn't much later my cousin got one with the zapper and Duck Hunt. I was pretty freakin' pissed that we didn't wait a little while longer to get one. I still remember Mom coming home with Metroid, Zelda, Rad Racer, Super Pitfall, and Kid Icarus (throughout the course of our 1st year having it).

I got an Action Set in '88 for my 9th birthday. My parents hooked it up in the basement and I didn't leave except to eat or sleep. I still have that NES and it still works, although it probably wouldn't hurt to put a new 72 pin connector in it.

I feel bad for the people who's parents came home with a SMS instead of an Nes. Having said that, I played the SMS back then at a cousins house and I enjoyed it.......but not on the same level as I enjoyed the Nes.

I got my first NES at the end of summer of 88. I think my mom bought it for my brother and me for our birthday that year.

I think I just barely made the eighties. I remember I was six when I played Zelda, and we got the NES for Christmas, but my birthday is in December. Since I was born in 83' it had to have been Christmas of 89'.

We didn't have anything save for my parent's Odyssey 2 until 1990 I believe? And then we got a Sega Master System, which beats the NES anyway .

My older brother bought one in '86. He took it back a month later because he needed the money. We borrowed my brother's friend's NES for a few months after that, until I bought on in '87 myself (I think I was 11). What a fantastic system is was. Getting a new game felt like xmas every time

Yes, I believe we got ours Christmas of 1988. I say that because I recall watching the mario show religiously, but that was after we got the NES (and that show aired in 1989 if I'm remembering right).

Prior to that we were strictly Atari. We had a 2600, and when that broke, we got a 7800 in I believe 1987? Ended up snagging an NES after my parents saw my uncle playing Super Mario Bros and a couple other games. Quite the jump!

I'm pretty sure it was the late 1980's. My dad bought it for my brother and I one Christmas. It was the one with SMB/DH and the Zapper. Seems like eveyone here got it in either 1987 or 1988, so it must have been then. I still remember my 1st encounter with Mario Brothers and how difficult I found it to get past scrolling platforms in level 1-2.

I got mine in September of 1989, well it was my Brother's actually. He had Mario/Duck Hunt, Castlevania, TMNT, and Top Gun. First game I bought myself was the Legend of Zelda.

I got my first one Xmas of 1987 with SMB/DH, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, Excite Bike, Hogan's Alley, and Kung Fu.

Actually, I found a story about my NES days I wrote a few years ago:

I got mine X-Mas '89. I played the hell out of Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. I remember even doing some picture book project for English class that was basically the (plagiarized) instruction book!
My webcomic about three kitties and their humans. Touches on different subject matter (including video games) and updates every Sunday and Wednesday. (The kitties demand you read it!)

After reading this thread, first thing I have to say..... GM80-Your grandfather was a great man and ahead of his time - May I be the same at that age!

I Bought the NES in 1986, my parents thought video games wrecked TVs. So I also bought a TV. That same TV which has seen a hell of a lot of video game action is in my bedroom and used regularly to this dat lol.

As an extension to the thread, who else had parents who thought your NES would ruin their TV?

I got one for my birthday in the summer of '89. I didn't play it all that much, actually, until Super Mario Bros. 3 came out, and then I was hooked. My mom had to devise a "sign up sheet" for me and my brother, limiting us to an hour a day. Of course we fudged those numbers...

We almost got a Master System, since that's what our friend had, but ultimately my parents went with a NES. Being 6 at the time, I couldn't have cared either way. Funny that now, all these years later, I've got a complete SMS collection and only a handful of NES games. Cobra Triangle was the first game I ever had, followed shortly by the much played Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers and Friday the 13th.

Yep, Christmas of 87. My brother and I must have played SMB for weeks straight.

We had an NES in the 80's, for about 6 days. We got it for Christmas in 1989.

This is my first post here. I remember being influenced into getting a Genesis because of my peers at school, but not with the NES. I want to say I had one in 1986, 1987, or 1988. It's odd I can't really remember. I was born in '82. If it was 87-88 I woulda been in kindergarten, but like I said, I didn't learn about NES through friends. My grandfather bought one w/ Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt. I remember I couldn't play Mario the controls were too hard, but I could play Duck Hunt. My dad actually played Mario and I used to watch him and it took probably a week or two for him to get to world 1-2 and when Mario first feel into that black and blue level with that music it was a HUGE gaming moment for both my dad and I. Within a year I'd be able to play circles around him.
