The Monarch: Hey, guess what? Nobody cares who would win in a crazy fantasy fist-fight between Anne Frank and Lizzie Borden. We never should have brought the henchmen. We're going to be the only ones there with henchmen!

Phantasy Star Online
Gauntlet
Ikari Warriors
7800 Asteroids
If you can't do it with 8 bits, you don't need to do it!
Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 1&2
Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara
Double Dragon 1-3
Undercover Cops
Gauntlet ... Any of them
It's been a long time since I've played anything co-op, but I can remember a few good co-op games.
Golden Axe II(any Golden Axe is good co-op, I mostly played that one)
The Simpsons arcade game
Champions of Norrath
Gears of War
Ren and Stimpy: Stimpy's Adventure
Little Big Planet
Wizard of Wor
Contra
Ikari Warriors
XXXXXXXX, the Bernie Madoff of the classic gaming community.
Thanks to my good friend's Dennis and Mr. Gary Shandling for vouching for me.

Oh man the money that game stole from me and my cousin and random other ppl after we pumped like ten bucks each into it and beat only to be let down with a bad ending... it still rocked though...
Streets of Rage 2 IMO is the best co-op game of the 16bit era. Golden Axe 2 and TMNT Hyperstone Heist is right up there too.
Streets of Rage 2
TMNT Arcade
Contra
Double Dragon
Ahh man this guy is back
I just started a thread about how much I like Sunset Riders on the Genesis & SNES.
I also love...
Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES)
Herc's Adventure (PSOne)

A lot of the games I was thinking of have already been mentioned. But what the heck... Here are a lot of the games I loved to play Co-Op on.
Ikari Warriors, Gauntlet, NARC, Contra, Bad Dudes, Cyberball, Twin Cobra, Doom, Quake 1-2, Double Dragon, Golden Axe, Halo 3, Gears of War, Battletoads, Twisted Metal, Operation Wolf, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Smash TV, Gunstar Heroes, and Joust.
Ummm, probably a lot more but can't think of them right now.
I would also add Halo, Contra, Double Dragon 1-2, Doom 3, TMNT, GAunlet and Gears to my list. But I would also add the Spider-Man arcade game. It was best when you got to play as Spidey but still a fun game overall.

For shame, for shame, for shame.
I always found Perfect Dark to be pretty fun in co op and counter op modes.
DERP
The Lost Vikings, and its sequel, Norse by Norsewest.
Soldiers of Fortune also.
