i think i saw those at your moms house last weekend...? i wasnt sure what they were either...
I certainly don't know, but while searching found this:

Possibly somebody built the RJ45 jack into the plug to use standard network cables either as controller cable extension cords, or else for custom controllers similar to the Cthulu mentioned in the linked post.
Whatever they are, it is definitely an interesting find. To me, anyway. I love neat hardware hacks.
Just a though but it looks sort of like the lightgun adaptor newtype5 was looking for in this thread...

Only in this case it would be for a Playstation.

i had asked about these light guns last week. looks like you may have the ps1 part i am missing. i'm really looking for the saturn part, but may be interested if you're selling those. (anyone else - is it possible these ps1 adapters are for a different item alltogether?).

oh my, it looks like we were typing at the same moment jb!
(yes, it took me almost 11 minutes to type that first response - darn work issues keep interrupting my videogame one-track-mind!).

I think I remember seeing something like that on an old 3rd party controller (perhaps a light gun) I had back in the PSX days. The controller was supposed to work with both PSX and Saturn. It had one plug for each console and you had to switch the plug depending on the system you wished to use.
Well, that's a bit of a bummer, but at least I know what it is! If anyone needs these PM me and we can work something out.
gotta love this place within a week two unidentified items combined into a single working item. Here's an idea though you should be able to with a little work connect that rj45 connector into a modem and send the data over a phone line so you can remotely control the game (with a ton of lag no doubt)... or just as easily hook it into a usb port on a computer and do the same thing over a higher bandwidth connection. No practical reason to do so, but you could say you did .

Those are for the super rare PS1 game Prank call! It came with a telephone that would plug into the PS1 with this connector. I used to have it. It was kinda comical and fantastical. I remember calling a lady in the game named greasy granny. There was another guy called Chicken Chowmany. Man that game used to be fun. Never seen it again. Never!

In yo face!
I'm pretty sure that's the

Be careful with that powerful device.
