    Default Need/want a new system

Well, I've got a NGPC, SNES, NES, PS1, PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, Saturn, and a Sega CD System. Seeing as I'd rather collect the must-buys and play them, I'm not going to have any huge collections for either system, ever. I feel I have the must-buys for each of the systems above, except for about 10 titles I'm definitely gonna get in the summer. Mostly imports. Made a list and everything!

So, a new system is in the cards. It is. I need a system with a good amount of these so-called must-buys. Been looking at the TG16 CD system, as some of you have seen in another recent thread of mine, but the prices are ass. I have all the WD titles for the TG16+CD, but not the system.

All in all, there's not much to go for, is it? 3DO, maybe, SMS. I don't want to go too retro like the Odyssey or anything like that. I'd really like a TG16 CD, though, if only the prices were in the Sega CD range!

    Any suggestions would be welcome!

How about Dreamcast or Neo Geo AES? Both have great libraries and the DC, at least, is relatively inexpensive to get started on.

Yeah, been considering a DC too. I dunno why, though, but the DC has always represented thousand bad sports games for me. No idea why! Isn't the NGAES like, EXPENSIVE? The games, that is.

    Oh wait, I'm wrong.

Neo Geo AES can be pricey, but dreamcast is rather cheap save for a few very desirable titles such as Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and even that only goes for about $50. Dreamcast has a really good amount of titles too.

    Go with Dreamcast.

Dreamcast as a thousand bad sports games!? You certainly have gotten the wrong impression! There are probably a good 30~ sports titles for the system, but hell they mostly are pretty decent even. If you like arcade style games at all, you need yourself a Dreamcast. There are also a handful of very good and unique RPGs if that's more your thing. I could go on all day about how excellent of a platform it is. Go look up some youtube videos or something (but they'll be nowhere near the quality of delicious VGA Dreamcast gaming).

Amen to that. I only recently got a Dreamcast, and I was in awe of just how much sexy that VGA box can output.

How about a Genesis? You mentioned having a Sega CD but strangely no Genesis system, I'm not sure if that was just a mistake or if you focused exclusively on collecting Sega CD games while ignoring Genesis games.

Or start collecting for the Gameboy, there's plenty of good games for it though boxed copies are very hard to find these days.

Your top priorities should be Dreamcast, Xbox and GBA. All have tons of great games and the library of games are very affordable. The 3DO is also a good option if you want to collect a smaller amount of must have games. However, it also has some really good import only titles too.

I think the sweet spot pricewise right now is either the Dreamcast or Nintendo 64. Both of these systems seem to be at the bottom of their curve at the moment with plenty of great games available.

    Dreamcast. Hands down.

I'd also recommend a Atari 2600, or a SEGA Genesis.

Wait, how can you have Sega CD without Genesis? Do you have CDX or did you forget to list it? Or what?

I (obviously) have the Sega CD system attached to the Genesis
Guess I should have mentioned that!

Anyway, I ended up with a PC Engine Duo-R. The Dreamcast can wait!

I'm not sure where you live but most states have Goodwill's and Dreamcast pop up there every now and then for $10-20. Games for them are even cheaper at $3-6 each for the majority of common games.

"The initial retail price for the system was $2500"

"Only two games were released for the system before RDI went bankrupt"

That's what system I want next, but I'm more of a collector than a player. I'd also love an Adventurevision or Odyssey 3, but all three of the systems mentioned are the price of used cars.

It depends on if you want an easy collection, or good games.

Me personally, I am highly, highly considering getting a hyperscan since only 5 games were released for it, with the most expensive game being the last released one (spider-man) for $35 on eBay.

Now when it comes to must owns, you know me better than that.
    Get a DC

If you like old school, get yourself a game gear. You can get one for pretty cheap now-a-days

Wooooot now all you need is an Arcade Card (Duo version) and many Hucard and CD based games. Nice purchase.

I just picked up a vectrex which I am restoring/playing and a jaguar (need the CD otherwise I have pretty much all the games already!) and am still playing with neo geo and my 360. Next going for an atari 2600 heavy sixer and possibly some other obscure consoles (bally astrocade and watar supervision!)
you need a DC and neo geo!!!
