Default Disney games made by SEGA

You always hear about Sega's flagship titles, like Sonic The Hedgehog and Phantasy Star, but the Disney games that Sega made are seldom talked about.

These were stellar platformers, often recreating the magic of Disney better than any developer could. The only other developer that came close to this level of quality was Capcom.

I'm going to try and list all of them but if you have one to add please do.

Castle Of Illusion - Genesis, Sega Master System, Game Gear
    World Of Illusion - Genesis
Land Of Illusion - Sega Master System, Game Gear
Legend Of Illusion - Sega Master System (Brazil), Game Gear
    Quackshot - Genesis
The Lucky Dime Caper - Sega Master System, Game Gear
Deep Duck Trouble - Sega Master System, Game Gear

With the exception of Legend of Illusion, I loved all of these games. If I'm not mistaken there was a compilation featuring Castle Of Illusion and Quackshot released for the Sega Saturn in Japan. Why these games are so overlooked is beyond me.

World Of Illusion is a fantastic two player game. It is without a doubt the most overlooked of the bunch. Beautiful 2D animation and design. Love the inclusion of many obscure Disney villains as bosses.

Anyway, I thought I'd open these titles up for discussion, as they don't seem to get enough love.

Don't forget Fantasia for the Genesis. These are some of my favorite games for the Genesis as well. Especially Quackshot. I thought it was a beautiful game, and really fun.

Did Sega have their hand in the later games like Aladdin, Lion King, Jungle Book etc? I know Aladdin was another wonderful game.

These are definitely some great games. Actually, most of the Disney games from this period were good that I remember, especially Cold Shadow.

I loved Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion (especially in two-player). I believe Sega was also involved in Ariel: The Little Mermaid for Genesis, although I didn't care for that one.

When I was a kid living in London, games magazines would never shutup about how great Castle Of Illusion and World Of Illusion were.

Ever complete Land of Illusion 100% ? Rather clever little game, but kind of short.

Man, I just picked up Worlds of Illusion CIB yesterday at a local thrift. I can see why it didn't get too much love, as it's not too much fun single player. 2 player is, of course, another story.

Castle of Illusion is amazing. I got it with my Genesis last year, and it is still one of my favorites in my collection. Disney made some amazing games back in the day, that's for sure.

Can't say I agree with overlooked, I've yet to meet anyone who owned a MD back in the day that Didn't play either Quackshot, CoI or WoI. I do agree that most of them are great games though, and I get a strong urge to play them just by looking at those boxes

My favourite is probably Land of Illusion for the sms, because of its great presentation and involving, varied gameplay with minor adventure elements. It had some neat puzzles and secret items that were fun to search out.
Not too far behind it is Quackshot, but that one is too easy and slow paced for me nowadays. should've had a hard mode.

I have Castle of Illusions and World of Illusion, and they're both great games (although WoI is indeed a little boring when you play alone). I've been looking for Quackshot for quite a while now, but only found expensive copies - which is too bad, 'cause i'ts my favorite of this bunch.

We have most of the ones mentioned so far...mainly because my wife likes Disney. Luckily for me, they are all really fun as well.

That reminds me. Does anyone know of where I can find a manual scan for the Beauty and the Beast game? I told her I'd try to find one but it hasn't been on any of the sites I know of.

It's always nice when a good developer takes a source and puts out a great game with it. The Sega games are good but the Capcom ones are far better.

Duck Tales, Chip and Dale, and Darkwing Duck are some of the best platformers made. There are the Gargoyle's Quest games(and Demon Crest) and those are also really good.

Forget Fantasia. Wasn't made by SEGA, but by Infogrames.

BTW, there's a Castle of Illusion/Quackshot cart released for the Mega Drive.

Gargoyle's Quest has nothing to do with anything by Disney. You might be thinking of Gargoyles the animated series, but that didn't exist until well after Gargoyle's Quest.

I actually just wrote up a whole article on Sega-16 about the Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck games, it's Gone to Press right now, but expect to see it up soon, probably this week or next depending on how fast Melf is going laying it out. I'd probably expect to see it in a few weeks or so.

There was also a Sega CD cart with Mickey Mania/Quackshot on it released only in Japan, and a Sega Saturn game with Castle of Illusion/Quackshot, also only released in Japan.

And these games are definitley not overlooked, Castle of Illusion is one of the first games that really attracted attention, along with the rest of the games from the Genesis Does! Campaign.

This reminds me of Lion King and Aladdin. While not made by Sega, definately 2 extremely good games for Genesis
