Well, for what it's worth, I'm back to not hearing crap from Innex again. Guess the sellers aren't the only ones getting the shaft.
Just got an -email from Hyperkin stating they are delaying the release of the GenMobile and GenCore to early October to work on compatibility and sound.
Heard from Innex. The portables have been held back for another two to three weeks.
There will be a playable demo unit of the GenCore at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo this Sunday. There might be a GenMobile unit, but I wouldn't count on it.
I'll definitely be interested in hearing what it's like. I've been humming and hawing over that pre-order button, but I'd rather wait and see what hands-on impressions are like. I know there's a strong argument for the original hardware, but the tiny size of these clone units is really appealing when you're tapped out for space.
email excerpt:
'We wanted to basically inform you about the status on the Retro Gen system.
We have received word that the item has arrived but the item is currently being held in customs for inspections. We haven't received an exact date for when the inspections will be complete, but they have told us it should take 4-7 business days. As of right now that is the most up to date information we have received.'
I think the held-up-in-customs story is one we've been told before, right? I guess we'll see, but it is interesting that Innex has apparently seen fit to send out a press release today about the other two systems:

So, maybe yes, maybe no, but it seems something is going to be showing up pretty soon.
I have been told that all work that is going to be done on these systems has been done, and that they are in production right now. They should ship in "early October". Both systems from both companies (Hyperkin and Innex) use the same hardware, so they should be ready at the same time.
I had a playable GenMobile at my booth at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo last weekend, and people were very excited when they played the system.
Rumor has it that the systems from Innex will be at stores and in testers hands by Thursday. We shall see where this goes this time.
Hi! Just got 5 firecores here at my store, I didnt order the handheld, I did order the Retro-Gen handheld it will arrive by saturday I think.
About the Firecore, The sound is terrible! Tested about 50 games and they all play, including the Game Genie and EA games. The menu is simple and the games play well. The box says it is Complatible with Firecore SD and supports Pseudo-32BIT Games.. dunno what that means anyways. You can plug original genesis controllers and they work, the firecore controllers are quite good except the right and left directional buttons you have to press at an exact position since its so sensitive it will detect up or down. The console has a Sega Genesis label and a red fire core label on top.
Included Game list:
Sonic & Knuckles
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Gain Ground
Arrow Flash
Shinobi III
Ecco Jr.
Golden Axe
Crack Down
Altered Beast
Flicky
Decap Attack
Edwat
Alien Storm
Shadow Dancer
Columns III
Sonic Spinball
Jewel Master
Kid Chameleon
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Ecco
Retro-GEN
They told me it has a rechargable battery by USB cable!
Does NOT include games
Hope they arrive by saturday.
Peace
Okay, so that it doesn't get lost. The Hyperkin Model was really nice in it's prototype form. I know that I was impressed with the screen and the over all design of the system. The compatibility was nice and the sound was pretty good. I know that the final design wasn't finalized, but it's going to be interesting to test the Innex model up against this. Hopefully I can get the final revision of the Hyperkin system too. Also, the review for the Hyperkin system is in Classic Video Gamer Magazine Issue #2.
so far 2 games are not playable on the firecore console, Super Street Fighter II and Beyond Oasis.
Peace
Video review from OldSkoolFool (from VGCentral) is up.
