Just how bad is the audio? I used to have one of the radica units, the one with SF2 and G'n'G, and it was acceptable. Is it worse than that?
Actually, the Retrogen is a little more updated, Beggar Prince works on it as an example, as it didn't work on the Firecore. The GEN Mobile will be using this update as well.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we will see a hardware revision in a years time, just as we did for the FC Mobile. In order to do so, I think either Hyperkin or Innex will have to rethink the Sega license, since that is what stuck them with ATGames. Going back deeper into this thread, the impression one gets is that the marketing and sales people don't believe that these machines will sell unless they do have that Sega license and the built-in games. I'm not sure what we can do to convince them otherwise, but I think that is what has to happen if we are to get what we want.
A recent Youtube video shows off Sonic, comparing it to the collection on PSP (not really a fair comparison when you compare the price of the two devices). I have to admit, Sonic on the Retrogen does sound really really bad (perhaps also a function of having the sound turned all the way up, overloading the internal speaker a bit).
When it comes to those classic Genesis games; yeah, there are better ways to play them. But when it comes to stuff like Raiden Trad, and El Viento and so forth -not a lot of that stuff is being published in collections or the Virtual Console. You need a machine to play the original carts, and I'm willing to put up with a few issues if it means I can play Raiden Trad at my leisure.
I know we haven't heard from the Hyperkin guy in a while, but please don't tell us that the portable SNES is off the table. I'm not expecting such a thing anytime soon, but damn I would pay a lot for such a thing.
So, the Gen Mobile, by Hyperkin, has 20 built in GENESIS games, a cartridge slot, and Firecore compatibility?
Where can I buy it?
Am I mistaken, or has the RetroGen suddenly sold out? It seems to have been removed from some store listings, or been marked as 'sold out' on others. Is this sort of thing typical? Either it proved to be pretty damn popular, or not a lot of them were produced. Good news for HyperKin in any event, since they're going to be the only game in town for a portable Genesis once it arrives on these shores.
I sold out over the weekend at http://www.gamesboro.net
Innex says they are on back order for a couple of months.

I just received my Retro-gen this week after pre-ordering it and waiting 6 weeks from the time it was suppose to be available and getting the nice suprise that the system was dropped $12.00 in price and I pre-ordered it for $49.99 and getting the response of "sorry, but there is noting I can do about it from the website that I ordered it from".Other than that, the system is terrific. The sound and picture quality are terrific. The only disappointing thing is that it was originally advertised on most websites that it came with an SD card & slot to be able to download licensed Sega games. There is no slot.
It appears GenMobiles are currently stuck in customs for approval. Just FYI. Customs can be a crap shoot sometimes so it might not take long or may take a few weeks.
True. I am going to be at DDR games on Monday, who is my wholesaler for these. I will see if I can get an update on ETA.
We have pre-orders available too ($55) at: http://www.chasethechuckwagon.com/it...tem=0000211100
I had the same experience. Lesson learned, we'll just never use that store again in future. They have a really weird back story that doesn't make me want to trust them with my credit card information again anyway.
As for the SD card thing -that was not for a built-in slot, but a separately available cartridge that would have an SD card slot. As I understand it, it wasn't about downloading Sega games, it was for games from the FireCore (or FireBox, or whatever the heck they're calling it these days) service that they already have in China. You know those crappy ass games that are built in with the RetroGen? Like that.
Strange that people are bringing up the whole "Licensed Sega" thing for the Innex system as being stuck with AtGames. The thing is that the Innex system is not licensed which is why it does not have the AtGames logo or licensed Genesis games built in. Just some FYI.
Hey guys, I got a present for you. How about some GEN Mobile footage?
