    Default EGM is coming back!

In 1988, Steve Harris founded Electronic Gaming Monthly.
In 1996, Steve sold EGM to Ziff-Davis.
In 2009, Ziff-Davis laid off the EGM staff and killed the magazine.
Now, Steve Harris is back in control of EGM and has plans to put the publication back in circulation by this fall.

    PUBLISHING RIGHTS TO EGM MAGAZINE

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, May 29, 2009 — Steve Harris, founder of “Electronic Gaming Monthly” magazine, announced today that he has entered into an agreement with Ziff Davis Media to re-acquire certain assets, including trademarks and publishing rights, with plans to re-launch EGM in the second half of 2009.

“The re-launch of Electronic Gaming Monthly represents a welcome opportunity to continue delivering quality content to gaming enthusiasts,” said Harris. “I feel honored to once again be associated with this respected magazine. The talented writers and designers who built upon EGM’s original vision have left behind a publication that is uniquely positioned to be successful.”

“Electronic Gaming Monthly is and always has been one of the most respected publications among the gaming enthusiast community,” said Jason Young, CEO, Ziff Davis Media Inc. “We are pleased that EGM is now in the hands of its original creator, Steve Harris, and wish him and the publication the best of success in the future.”

“We have exciting plans for the evolution of what will once again be a leading independent voice for the gaming community,” Harris continued. “The twenty year success of the EGM brand has always been built upon a commitment to its readers who I believe will enthusiastically embrace the changes we are planning to introduce.”

Additional details and future announcements will be made during the upcoming E3 expo and posted on the magazine’s official website at www.EGMNOW.com or via the official EGM Twitter account at www.twitter.com/EGMNOW .

Hopefully I can find some more free subscriptions once it re-launches. When it died I had about 3 years left from stacking various free subscription offers online.

Wow, that's good news. I don't read the magazine, but maybe I'll start.

If EGM actually goes back to how it was it might be a good magazine. EGM hasn't been a good magazine for awhile now.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

EGM hasn't been a good magazine since Ziff Davis took it over in 1995 or 1996.

EGM was a great magazine during the Sendai days of 1989 until '95 or '96.

I'm quite pleased with this news! Haha, I also had about 2 years worth of subscription time with the ZD run.

Good luck starting a magazine in this economy and at this stage of printed media. This is quite honestly suicide. I'm sure I also won't be getting credit for the year's worth of subscription I still had on EGM.

I had about 11 months worth of subscription left too. I don't really care though. If making us buy our subscription again keeps the magazine afloat, then I'd rather pay again.

I hope they bring back the 400+ page issues again. I still have all my original subscription issues from the early 90's and those are the ones I read the most. I don't care if half the pages were ads!

Ah man those were awesome. Even the 200 pages of ads were awesome because they all had cool artwork that wasn't in game stuff. Now every game pretty much looks like Call of Duty. Basically a dude with a gun and fatigues. But I'm in for a sub.

This is good news, but I hope it actually gets off the ground. In this economy and with the dying print media, even if they start publishing it again I really don't see it lasting, unfortunately.

I would love them to get into podcasting and doing some webisodes of whatever. They should adopt something that I've been watching on justin.tv and it's people just streaming themsleves playing games. If they can get something going like that online and just have a decent magazine then I think they can stick around.
