Default Someone moving on from a complete PS2 collection

I have a friend who is a very dedicated PS2 collector. He has every game released in the States and some variants but I believe he doesn't have all the variants yet. Now he is moving onto another region and is asking me for advice. I thought it would be helpful for him to get your 2 cents on here.

He is choosing between starting a JPN or PAL PS2 collection, hoping to complete it of course.

    JPN
    Pros:
    1. JPN artworks are better
    2. Better packaging
    3. More limited edition and rare games
    4. Definitive list available on the net

    Cons:
JPN has about 2000 more games
Probably harder to resale in the western market

    PAL
    Pros:
    Fewer games
    1. Easier to import
    2. Better resale value

    Cons:
    1. Artworks not as good and colorful
    2. No definitive game list as of now

Wow, I've never heard of that.

I just looked it up. The only applicable phrases include "WTF" and "When did Pinnochio start smoking crack?"

why would resale value be a concern for someone who wants a complete collection? I would think that people going for complete collections have no intentions of ever selling them, or at least never selling them as anything less than a complete collection, which makes their resale value a moot point... unless they're worried about not being able to complete the collection, and having to sell off whatever they managed to aquire before giving up on it...

People collect for different reasons. Knowing you can sell something down the road if your life changes or you have a financial crisis is reassuring for some people.

Personally, I'd be all over the JPN stuff. Yeah, it's more of a challenge, and if you can't read Japanese the majority of the titles will be useless...but think of how many good games Japan got that we didn't. Ok, now think of all the games Europe got that we didn't.

    Yeah. Easy decision for me!

I suggest he avoid the Japanese set solely because of the insane amount of games he'd have to pick up. The European exclusives are less by a very large margin.

You are right, he could not read Japanese but he enjoys the Japanese artworks alot more.

However, he is not just looking for exclusives, he is actually trying to reach another goal of a complete set so not just games that were not released in the States.

How on EARTH have I missed Phoenix Games?!

    This is hilarious...

    "Extreme Sprint 3010

Extreme Sprint 3010 takes place in post-apocalyptic Earth. In 3010, a totalitarian government trying to hold the full power in its hands introduces the new violent Extreme Sprints. The player will have to complete 16 sprints in 16 different arenas created in 4 different worlds to become a winner."

If you have no intention of actually playing the games why don't you just collect the artwork instead of complete games?

I never heard of this company until just now, but with games like this, I need to get their shit:

" Car Wash Tycoon - Available Now -
Spa Town is a compact town containing a shopping area, light industrial units and a residential district as well as six carwashing sites.

There are a total of six possible carwashing sites and six types of car in Spa Town and your aim is to establish which types of car prefer which sites, what price they are prepared to pay for car cleaning, which type of finance suits the business best and finally the most cost effective way of advertising your service.

When you are confident you have all the facts and figures you need, get your entrepreneurial hat on and start making some money! "

    Haha, really? That's quite hilarious.

I think we are getting off topic though, so which would you guys pick if you were him? Imagine you are a completist, love animation and the PS2.
