Default PS3 makes settling noises when on

You know that settling sound some furniture and homes make, right? That "creak" or "pop"?

Well, my PS3 makes these noises when it's on. I could be watching a movie, or game, and here it make a small "pop". It's not an electrical sound, but a mechanical sound as if some plastic piece really is settling. It's not the HD either, took the HD out and put it into my computer and ran a disk check, passes and no noises from it.

    Perhaps a stupid explanation. However...

could the noises maybe be coming from the furniture the PS3 sits on?
For one thing, it's a hefty piece of hardware, not a lightweight.
For another, it can output some HEAT, which might cause the table or whatever it's on to make "settling" noises.

or maybe your ps3 has something wrong with it... but I hope not?

I've tried many locations, including the floor, AND on a rug with a book under it (so it didn't block vents).

But yes, it sits on balanced locations.

    Default Plastic

I get it from time to time also. I wouldn't be concerned with it too much as it could be just the plastic expanding or contracting and the tight screws stopping the movement. If you start to see a stress crack then you should worry.
