Unhappy I'm SO Frustrated With My Sega CD!

You might have seen my previous thread explaining how my Model 1 Sega CD won't read discs.

Well, I finally opened it up, cleaned off the lens, put it all back together, and tried again.

    It still won't read discs.

I am so upset with this. I've tried buying a memory cartridge and cleaning out the lens, but the machine still won't read discs... and, to make everything a little worse, I already left positive feedback for the guy.

When you turn on the system does it boot to the main Sega CD start up screen?

In my experience, Model 1 Sega CDs are pretty fragile. I once went to pick one up in an adjacent city and tested it in the guys house. Everything was OK, put it in the trunk and drove back home. I get there and *poof* doesn't read CDs.

There is a door timing issue that happens to some of the model 1s. There is a video on Youtube that shows a guy who repaired his.

My model 1 has this issue aswell. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes I have to open it up and move around the tray for it to work. It's a real pain so I would suggest getting a model 2 Sega cd.

What? A Model 2? And have to listen to THAT HORRIBLE THEME you get when there's no disc? Everyone knows the Model 1 song is better, anyway!

I would get a model 2 simply for the reliability issue. I could care less about the differences in the theme. My model 2 Sega CD and S-Video modded Genny 2 is great.

Wondering if the laser could have gone bad or the motor might have burned out.

Do you know what I can do to fix it? The guy says it was working when he had it.

just get a x'eye or a cdx. ha. I have a broken model 1 that I could harvest parts from if your willing to swap parts around. I got it not powering on so dont know if the laser is/isnt reading but might keep the parts as I have a fully functional model 1 and in case something happens. or you can always scout out a laser active!

    Unhappy

I actually have NEC and SEGA LaserActive PACs, but no LaserActive.

The point is, I want my model 1 Sega CD to work. Does ANYONE know how I might be able to fix it?

Or WHO might be able to fix it?

You can try http://www.sega-parts.com/, they're Sega's official repair center for all of their older hardware.

The site is just called Sega Parts, you can send them your Sega CD and it will cost you $45 for them to repair it.

And how do I do that? I don't see an option for it.

    Default Sega Parts

From the last time I spoke to them, they don't work on repairs anymore. It maybe cheaper to buy another one.
