What are some opinions on this game? I think it's an overall fantastic 1995 Seibu Kaihatsu scrolling shooter, on par with Raiden and R-Type, with the playability of the 19xx series. Anyone else played this?

I borrowed it from a friend, and as much as I enjoyed it, I find it somewhat boring. I borrowed Dimahoo from my friend at the same time, and it saw a lot more game play than Viper Phase 1 did. VP1 is a "just miss" title in my eyes. It's fun, but the replay value just isn't there for me.

I've been playing a ton of ESPrade lately, so maybe I'm just jaded

I need a friend with a bunch of arcade boards.

And my opinion of VP1 is pretty much the same as Robotnik's; I think the backgrounds are a little dull and monotonous, but it's a fun game.
