    Default The power of three

Over time, there has become a standard for video game bosses to die in three hits. It has reached the point where it is almost a given. Some games take it to the extreme, such as in every Mario game. You know as soon as you see Bowser that you only need to hit him three times.

What do you think? Is it good or bad that boss fights are so predictable?

I think it can be a good thing in terms of knowing how to pace yourself during a boss fight (i.e. not using up all your items, health, or powerups too early) but it is nice for things to get mixed up once in a while. Also, sometimes it's not necessarily three hits, but three boss forms, and again I think that's a pretty standard number.

Huh? I have not taken notice of any three hit boss trend. You're talking about old games, right?
