Then we'll all find out who is bad enough to rescue the President.

It was turned into a game, so I guess it counts: August 29, 1997 was supposed to be Judgment Day and it never came. People even called Microsoft that day wishing them a "Happy Judgment Day". The second Judgment Day(July 24, 2004) didn't happen either.

Looks like sci fi titles are the worst offenders here.

Let's not forget the incident in the mansion in the Arklay Forest that was supposed to happen in 1998, as of 1996.

The year is 1999. Television has adapted to the more violent nature of man. The most popular form of television remains the game show. One show in particular has dominated the ratings. That show is SMASH TV.The most violent game show of all time.

...I am still waiting for that game show.

What about New York being a giant prison in the year 1997 like in Escape From New York?

Supposibly Resident Evil 5 takes place in 2009. So, where are all the zombies that appear in Africa.

When it comes to movies, anyone notice how Back to the Future 2's future scene takes place 6 years from now and Blade Runners future is 10 years from now? Seems there is always a wacky aproximation of the future that is really far off once the time comes...

We still have 6 years to develop flying cars, hoverboards, clothes that adjust to fit, and for the Cubs to whoop The Marlins at baseball.

The last scene in the ending of Bionic Commando when you find that Super Joe was recounting the events that transpired in Bionic Commando on 1989.4.7. I remember scarcely believeing I'd even be alive on that day. Now it's a year away. It seemed SO far away and unreal. I think I secretly believed the world would end before then, especially with the Cold War and such still looming back then.

    Great thread idea, btw.

No No, it's pretty obvious that since Marty and Doc Brown had knowledge of the future that they somehow changed something between 1985 and 2015. Going to the future actually led to a chain reaction of events that caused the Delorian to be hit by a train. That was some pretty advanced technology right there that would no longer be able to effect future technology had it survived. OK, so I'm just making this all up off the top of my head but it makes perfect sense to me.

6 years is plenty of time for that.

Although "window screens" are rather pointless when you have ultra-thin TV's

I'm pretty sure something like the Microsoft Surface would have blown their mind. Even I can't believe that thing is real and it is!

Those aren't LazerDiscs, Those are actually large Blu Ray Disc. What's going to happen is that they won't be able to compress anymore memory on a standard sized disc so they instead made the Blu-Ray the size of an LP. It's going to take a lot of space to compress holograms. I still think were on track.

So now we know that he actually meant "I hope this story will still be generating revenues twenty years from now, huh?

Also, Max Headroom seems to have been set in the mid-2000s (although one of the subtitles for some incarnation of the show was "20 Minutes Into the Future" which seems more appropriate).

I guess it would if you used the wrong dang format - holographic storage is well-suited for a block of memory, not a flat plane. Which isn't to say you can't store holograms on a flat disc, but it would make more sense to store them by volume.
