PSN $5 "Funding Amount"?

I was checking the PSN store for the free episode of Gunslinger Girl, when I accidentally clicked on "PURCHASE" on one of the episodes at $1.99.

Although I did not complete the transaction, it says I have on "cart" the episode for $1.99. Then at the bottom it says "Subtotal" at $1.99. Then Tax says $0.00.

Then where it says "FUNDING AMOUNT", it says $5.00.

But at the bottom it says "REMAINING WALLET AMOUNT", which is $3.01.

Thing is, I never added a credit card! At least not yet.

What is this "FUNDING AMOUNT"? This I get a $5 freebie?

Did I somehow get a $5 bonus credit?

I'm afraid to buy something until I can determine this.

I'll call Sony anonymously tomorrow, to see what's up. Perhaps it's just a $5 gift for joining. If anyone with a new account (or new console) can verify this as well, that would be great.

Dunno, but for that $5 I would get Sony's Trash Panic, best $5 you can spend. The game is pretty addictive and fun in a tetris like way.

They might just take it away after using it. Like credit, for example. I can use it freely now, and they pay it back. I doubt it, but hey, who knows.

If it says you have an amount of $5 then I'm sure you do. Whenever I went there it said 0.00.

If your credit card is in no way attached to anything PSN-related, I'd say use it. There's nothing they can really do.

I suspect that was the minimum amount of points you could purchase and complete that transaction. I highly doubt they gave you $5.

BTW microsoft isn't that nice they give $6.25 increments. Cool eh? I like spending 400 points on a game then having 100 left over for useless gamerpics.

You can buy in blocks with wallet transfer or if your credit card is on file while checking out it will deduct the exact amount.

From what I can tell PSN purchases aren't block-based, but there is a minimum funding amount of $5 (or £5, or E5, or whatever). So buy something for $1.99, you add $5, but but something for $6.99 and you add $6.99. That's how it works for me, anyway.

Am I the only one who pays taxes on PSN games? A $5 game cost me 5.35 or something like that.
