Microsoft also made a component cable (not the box version). I used to have that one. Now I just use a 3rd party cable from ebay and I don't think there's any difference.

Fair enough. Just to be safe, any brand I should definitely avoid?

Some of the after-market component adapters do NOT have an optical adaptor on them, so if digital audio is important avoid them. I can say the brands for sure, and I'm sure there are quite a few that lack this feature. I'd play it safe though and stick with Microsoft's official pack. I use the Microsoft one on my HDTV and the picture looks great.
