Default Recent Starfox 2 carts on Ebay

I noticed the two Starfox 2 cartridges sold recently on Ebay, and am curious as to wether they are actual prototypes, or maybe homebrews? How justifiable are the winning prices? Thanks for any input!

They are repros. They are worth $100 or thereabouts. Anyone who makes repros would, chances are, sell them for about that price.

I don't know why people pay a lot of money for reproductions. By and large, the whole process is illegal, and I am surprised these things don't get pulled off ebay.

Star Fox 2 was never released in cartridge form ever. The leaked beta was never on a prototype cart, and if anyone says different, they are full of BS.
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them

So basically the game never left the computer until leaked?

That is right. It was leaked purely because the person who leaked it wanted it to work in emulators (there were some severe flickering and gameplay faults when the game was played in zsnes before the leak).

so basically those are reproduction carts, that somebody made? If so, that's a really good accuracy. Pricey as they may be, to have something that you not supposed to( Starfox 2 actually playable on Snes, not emulated strictly on PC) is something I guess other people want because it is still a very rare find. Can't say I know anybody that could reproduce that good, and even if they could, they probably wouldn't care enough to take the time. That's just my thoughts. Just out of curiousity again, anyone know of other reproductions of games that enter this type of genre(Being Unreleased, etc)?

If you search around these forums, you will find that there are people who make reproductions of many NES and SNES games, including Star Fox 2. In fact, you can likely find someone to make a Star Fox 2 reproduction for far cheaper than the price on Ebay. Quite frankly, I don't know how those auctions survive Ebay, considering that it is pretty illegal to sell and distribute reproductions. I also think it is silly to sacrifice a working commercial game (in the case of Star Fox 2, a relatively uncommon Stunt Race FX) in order to make this game. Instructions on how to do it are here:

    http://snesdev.romhack.de/sf2.htm

Though making a Star Fox 2 reproduction isn't the travesty that a Star Ocean one is, as that requires an actual Star Ocean cartridge (which is actually not very common, with sales apparently below 300,000).
