Arcade racing games that connect?

Such as cruisin' USA and stuff like that...

At the movie theatre I go to, there are 2 racing games, I believe both of them are 'cruisin' games, and some how they connect so you can play 2 player.

Me and a friend are possibly moving in together sometime in the next year, and we love this game. I already have a few arcade games in my house, and we both were thinking about getting these, does anyone know which racing games (even ones from outside of the cruising games) you can do this with, and how they connect? A cord I assume...

As you mentioned, the Cruisin series does link, which is done via a network cable. The San Francisco Rush games link in the same manner...

Daytona USA is a fun series where you can have up to 8 units linked via fiber-optic cables.

There are actually quite a few linking games out there... Offroad Thunder, Sega Rally Championship, Vapor TRX, Road Burners, Sega Super GT, etc...

Hydro Thunder is another good one. I have a twin Indy 500. The best thing to do is figure out what type of racing is the most fun for you and your friend and go from there.

I swear I have seen a motorcycle game linked up, one of the Suzuka 8 hrs games probably. If you're a fan of two player co-op, you can't go wrong with Atari Fire Truck. Maybe get yourself some Vs cabinets, too.

You can always link 2 Xboxes together in the meantime. There are some great racers for that system and most of them work with a link cable, 2 Xboxes, 2 TVs & 2 disks of the game you choose. Then add 2 racing wheels and you have an awesome setup for a fraction of the cost that will play many more games.

Most any racing game since the late 80's/early 90's are linkable. Some (but not all) give 8-player capability by linking up four two-player units, or 8 single units. Some examples of this are Daytona USA, San Francisco Rush, Suzuka 8 hours (motorcycles), Daytona USA 2, Sega Super GT, Hydro Thunder (boat racing), Road Burners (motorcycles again), and Rush 2049.

Some racing games are 2-player only (Harley-Davidson & L.A. Riders,iirc), Final Lap, and the like, and some were single-player ONLY....Crazy Taxi, Emergency Ambulance, Jambo Safari, etc.

Basically, my advice to you is figure out a.Where you're living (2nd floor, ground floor, paved access or not, etc), b.What kind of space you have to work with, c. How many "cars" you want or need. Are you having friends over to join in as well? Then you'd probably need 4 instead of 2. And lastly, d. How much cash are you willing to spend? If money is no object, then you could pick up some Fast and Furious Super Bikes for a few thousand apiece...if you're on a limited budget, California Speeds or Crusin's might be a little more in the budget range.

Also, it depends on what game you like. If you won't be satisfied with anything less than a Rush 2049, well, then, that's what you'd be buying. But if you're a little more flexible then there will be other/cheaper options for you too. And it's not to say that you HAVE to keep your first racer either, it can always be sold to buy another later on. I have 2 California Speeds that I wasn't really looking for, but for the price I got them at, I really couldn't pass it by either.

One last thing, beware of San Francisco Rush cars. If you end up buying these, be aware that they do not come apart. They are supposed to be on wheels, some of them at this point are not. If they have bent/broken casters, and/or no wheels, they are monsters to move, and, being as they do not come apart, stairs are really *NOT* an option with them. Other than that, pretty much everything else comes apart, so they are (relatively) easy to move. Good luck in your quest, and enjoy whatever you end up buying!

I don't know if I'd call Fire Truck 'Linked'.

While is is two-player co-op, it is only one cabinet.

Great game, though... Very first arcade game I ever owned.
