I paid for a little less than half of the Coleco Adam my parents got for me back in the day. I think my share was $280.

First computer I bought was in early 1999 and it cost around $2500. P-II 450 and 128 mbs of ram. Had a 56k modem, Soundblaster Live! Value, and Riva TNT (16 MB) video card.
I built my first computer. That was in 1999. Win 98 SE and a celeron 400 from memory. I think the parts cost me just under a grand including windows oem and a 17 " monitor. Lasted until 2004 when it died. I later revived it and tried to overclock it for a MAME machine. It got to about 600 mhz before it died! I was only overclocking it for Raiden, which i love and HAD to have run right.
Edit. Oh, and it's 4 gig hard drive lived on in my mame cab until it died a year or so ago. This is about the last time it was seen alive before i overclocked it
I was also supposed to be varnishing the floor at the time (",)

Our first computer was a used VIC-20 with a handful of games, and was $30.
Our second was a LASER-128, an Apple ][ (I think ][c) clone. It was $300 from Sears.
Not sure how much our first PC was. Over a grand. That was around 1994.
You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?
