I think it's time to make the donuts:
That's a terrible arguement! So what, you can play PS1 games on the PS3, should that also be in modern? You can play NES on the Wii... and I'm sorry but you can *hardly* play Xbox games on the 360...I don't know if that even counts.
Ok, fine, I'll bite, I'm not sure about the other two, but it's pretty clear to me that the PS2 has achieved that status...
It's time! It's time! It's Vader time!

It'll be 2012, and the world will end because it will be HAMMERTIME and not Klax time. It's quite obvious, really. And... it time to Figure it Out!
I think it's PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!
As of right now, however, it is not with a baseball bat.
I see your old-school wrestling reference and give you a MASH UP.

You're taking "It doesn't have to be old to be classic!" too far.
Hey, these orphan toddlers, they're classics!

Might as well lock this train wreck of a thread. It doesn't seem possible to have a discussion, a lot of retarded +1 jokes...
I think this does need some discussion. There should be a time-based threshold in which a system is moved into the classic forum. Like 10 years old.
DERP
If we're going to start doing serious discussion, then I think that a system should only be moved to "Classic" when the company that makes the system has stopped supporting it for at least two years (arbitrary, I realize). Maybe that means GameCube and Xbox should be moved to "Classic," but seeing as how there are still games scheduled for release for the PS2 next year, it should still be discussed here.

In terms of technology, the current generation of consoles is also ancient, especially the Nintendo Wii. Are you going to be advocating we place the current generation of consoles into the classic gaming forum as well?
Nonsense
You'd have consoles like the Sega Dreamcast that have been dead domestically for 8 years with the original manufacturer having left the hardware marketplace being declared classic, while other consoles like the Playstation 2 that are still commercially viable 10 years after release would be declared classic in the same timeframe.
If we had any criteria to declare it besides when the forum as a whole largely supports it after a system is dead commercially and discussion for it has largely been curtailed, I'd support moving a console to classic gaming when it's more than two generations old. By then, support for it besides limited repairs from the manufacturer is largely gone and most people will have moved on.
I don't think the GameCube, Playstation 2, and Xbox should be moved to classic gaming when they're still major platforms in the used market, with one of the three still being a important platform commercially in 2009 beyond the second hand marketplace.
Maybe when the Playstation 2 is discontinued and the Wii 2/PS4/Xbox 720 are on the marketplace, it would seem right to move discussion to them to classic gaming. Right now, they're just the previous generation and still represent a large and significant portion of the marketplace.
