I always wondered myself, because I'm a huge fan of the Vacation series. After looking into it a while ago, I think it's a Bally Astrocade, but I'm not 100% sure.

(EDIT: And just because I double-checked, the controllers the Griswolds use look a lot like the Astrocade's.)

I'm a huge Vacation fan. There are numerous video game related things about the movie, like how you can see a Coleco tabletop arcade in the back of the old family truckster and when Russ keeps asking cousin Dale if he has Pac-Man, Space Invaders, or Asteroids (which his dad strangely enough has).

I watched it last night. A Christmastime tradition with my parents and sisters that never gets old.

Todd: Hey Griswold. Where do you think you're gonna put a tree that big?
Clark: Bend over and I'll show you.

Actually, Dale confuses Asteroids with hemmorrhoids:

Rusty Griswold: Hey, ya' got Pac Man?
    Cousin Dale: No.
Rusty Griswold: Ya' got Space Invaders?
    Cousin Dale: Nope.
    Rusty Griswold: Ya' got Asteroids?
Cousin Dale: Naw, but my dad does. Can't even sit on the toilet some days.

Also, I plan to make this into a banner for my board at some point:

    Suggested captions:

The Third Moon: Eat the Griswolds for 1000 points!
The Third Moon: Home of Pacman's retarded parked-car-chasing cousins
The Third Moon: "Throw more luggage, Honey! It's catching up!"
When the Sat-Nav says you're screwed, you've reached THE THIRD MOON

I always though it was odd how much more the original seems to have aged over Christmas vacation. They were only 6 years apart but Christmas Vacation just seems so much newer to me. For one thing, the video quality looks so much better...I wonder if it's just that they could afford better cameras later on. It could also be that 1983 still felt a bit like the 70's while 89 was making way for the 90's.
