Default XBOX 1 games ported to PC (Xbox vs PC version)

    Hey guys,

I wanted to start a list of games that originally came out for XBOX, but then later ported to PC.

Most of the time, the PC version was better than the original XBOX version if equipped with a beefy video card.

However, I'd much rather play a game on the XBOX sitting in front of a big tv rather than sitting on a chair staring at a smaller monitor, but sometimes the PC version's looks so much better it's worth it.

Some games play better on a console (Racing, Adventure), while other games are made for a PC, such as shooters. However the online crowd for PC dies much quicker than on XBOX Live. I'm torn really.

So let's make a list of games that are better on the PC, or better on the XBOX, and why?

If anyone has played both versions of the game, please chime in with a comparison.

Please Add your info, then I'll edit the main post and keep it updated for everyone.

Xbox 1 games also on PC:

    - Fable
    - Jade Empire
    - PSI-Ops
    - Rallisport Challenge
    - Freedom Fighters

    thanks guys!

No idea if it's better or not.

As much as I hate Halo it seemed to play better on the PC. Also Knights of the Old Republic, I also seemed to enjoy it more on PC, maybe it was because of my small girl hands?

Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth. The controls are quite bad for the PC port and it also has numerous bugs that can completely halt your progress and force you to reload a saved game.

You know, you can play PC games on a big tv, too, and with higher resolutions and better frame rates even.

Rallisport Challenge is about the same. The pc version has its quirks, but obviously it looks a little better.

It's not a great port, but on a modern PC, it runs and plays far better than the original. The online play, extra maps and weapons, kb&m controls, and user-made maps and mods make it better on PC.

Pretty much a completely different game, main differences include obvious controller vs keyboard-mouse, and online servers.

Halo was pretty infamous at release for having insane system requirements far beyond what people would have expected given its visuals.

    Some others:

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy (Midway release afaik),
Prince of Persia (trilogy, although maybe one could argue the visuals on PC were ahead of other versions)
Deus Ex: Invisible War (this one is a clear-cut port to PC, another title infamous for sloppy controls on PC)

Why are you making the distinction of the Xbox version coming first?

I can't answer for the OP, but going from Xbox to PC narrows down the genres, often leads to specific types of controls, and is the way the market was trending anyway (console to PC conversion). What's more, it's always nice to find "better" versions of console favorites. You'll find plenty of cross-developed games, plenty of console-to-PC ports, but few PC-to-console ports (partly due to the limitations of console controllers and of course the system limitations).

I have JE:SE for PC and there have been no problems whatsoever. Id assume its the definitive version because you can run in a higher res.

Also Knights of The Old Republic 2, which was graced with a ton of extra user modded content on the pc. While thats no surprise, it's even more depressing for Xbox users who read how the developers cut out several extras(including an entire new planet to explore) in order to make the ship date for Xbox.

I couldn't find any games that were released on the Xbox first and was followed by a superior port on the PC based on their Metacritic scores.

I did find a few PC games that received an Xbox port that didn’t quite measure up to the PC version..
    Half-Life: Counter-Strike
    Myst IV: Revelation
    Operation Flashpoint
    RollerCoaster Tycoon
    Sid Meier's Pirates
Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix
    Syberia
    Syberia II
    Tron 2.0
    Unreal II: The Awakening

These PC to Xbox ports appear to be only marginally better....
    Half Life 2
    Painkiller: Hell Wars
    Pure Pinball
    Star Wars: Jedi Knight-Jedi Academy
    Still Life

These games were released simultaneously for the PC and Xbox with the PC version being marginally better....
    Drake of the 99 Dragons
    Shattered Union
    Thief: Deadly Shadows
    Ultimate Beach Soccer

These games were released simultaneously for the PC and Xbox with the Xbox version being marginally better...
    Pariah
    Robocop (2003)

These games were released on the Xbox first and appear to be rated better than their PC ports...
    Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller
    Jade Empire
    Rallisport Challenge
Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse
    Sudeki
    Yager

The rest of these games seemed to be rated as pretty much being even.
Whether they were released on the Xbox first...
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
    Close Combat: First to Fight
    Dead Man's Hand
    Enclave
    Gun Metal
    Shadow Ops: Red Mercury
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
World War II Combat: Road to Berlin

    The PC first...
    Doom 3
    Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
    Elder Scrolls III: Marrowind
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder
    Scrapland
    Warpath

    Or simultaneously...
    Cold War
    Combat Task Force 121
    Deus Ex: Invisible War
    Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
    First to Fight: Close Combat
Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green
    Magic the Gathering - Battlegrounds
    Men of Valor
    Monster Garage
    Serious Sam II
    Special Forces Nemesis Strike
    Star Wars: Republic Commando
    Wings of War
World War II Combat: Iwo Jima

Wow! thanks for that huge list Sparticus!

The way I figure out which has the best version, is I find an Xbox game with a pc port, then download them demo for PC. Then I'll play the Xbox and PC versions back to back, and jot down my obervations.

Now, I usally find the PC versions to look a little crisper than the Xbox Versions, howver most PC versions Lack the Xbox Live features. So even though a PC port might have slightly better graphics, it doesnt make up for the lack of multiplayer, or the lack of being able to sit infront of a big screen TV.

Now there are some exceptions, notibally Xbox games that run horrible on Xbox, but the PC port's run silky smooth.

    Some examples

The entire splinter cell series. The graphics were very advanced for Xbox 1, and in doing so are a bit choppy at times. The PC version looks notablly better and is silky smooth. You can also aim better with the mouse and keyboard.

The same goes for Deus Ex: Invisible War, and Theif: Deadly Shadows. The PC versions run MUCH better with the right hardware.

So basically, if an XBOX game has any slowdown on the console.. The PC version will not only look much sharper, but will have a silky smooth framerate.

So it all depends. Single player games on Xbox with bad framerates, get them on PC no questions.

But if a game has good smooth graphics on Xbox, and has online Live Support, I'd go with the console version even if it means your getting slightly less sharper graphics.

About Serious Sam II, wasn't the final boss fight (a mental hospital?) removed from the Xbox version? I know that when I played the last stage of the game it just proceeded to a cutscene and text saying Sam won the fight and that was the end of the game.
