The TG16 does have long power and RF cables though, you're supposed to have it on the floor in front of you I think... the same idea as those other old systems I guess, such as the Intellivision and Colecovision. In all of those cases it's a horrible, horrible design decision, but I think the idea is that you have the system on the floor in front of you.
You're right. Back when I first got my Genesis we kept it on the coffee table in front of the couch and kept the games beside it, I didn't have to go up to the TV to change the games. That's how the older systems were designed, most people didn't have huge entertainment centres to store a whole bunch of stuff all hooked up to the TV, back then you maybe had a VCR and a single video game console hooked up. The TV was just on a small stand with space for the VCR underneath. That's how it was for me anyway.
I searched all over and finally found the best thing ever. . .
. . . an extension cable for the Turbografx 16. As already stated, the cables for tg16 are probably 3 feet long. It's a joke.
Genesis controller cables could be longer, but it isn't terrible.
I think, at the time, game companies never anticipated large screen televisions and massive entertainment centers with several components would become the norm. I think they just expected their systems to be hooked up to a 13" TV in the den or basement.
I think I will get another set of those controller extensions since I took the ones off my Genesis to use on my atari and dont want to keep switching them back & forth. Since I got the Atari 2600 Harmony Cart, I have been playing atari non-stop.
Anyone got a good source for SNES extensions?
