Default Sega CD reading game disks as audio disks

Sorry if this is a common problem that has been asked a hundred times already.

I have a Sega CD model 1. It boots to the splash screen fine. But when I put in a game, it brings up the audio CD controls and does not play the game. Anybody know what's up?

Maybe I should try putting an audio CD in and seeing if it'll find a game on the disk. :P

Its sounds like your eye. Mine did that when I first got my model 2............ that was quite a while ago. But I did a little DIY and put a new eye in.

Longshot but are you trying to read original CD games? If you are trying to play backups than they may be burned wrong!

If they are originals than are they scratch free and good condition? Otherwise maybe a dirty lens or alignment problem..............

The tray may be out of sync. I think there's some people on Youtube that talk about it.

    Thanks everyone.

It was definitely an original game, not a copy.

This worked fine last time I played it--around 3 years ago.

It's been through a couple of moves and several packings since then, so lens being out of alignment is definitely possible. Hopefully it doesn't need replacing.

I'll look up those youTube's on the tray.

    Thanks again!
