Default Super Famicom Screen "split" in half vertically

I just picked up a Super Famicom, and I noticed that there is sort of a really dark (and really faint) vertical bar rnning down my screen. There's also one on the very right. They're only about an inch wide, and I can only notice when the screen is black, but it's just a little annoying (I'm playing through FFV atm, and after every fight, the screen goes black for a few seconds)

I guess what I'm asking is, is this normal for all systems, or is it just mine? I'm using a nintendo S-Video cable right now...I tried a composite one and I still had problems.

Have you tried it on a different TV?

Now the ball is in wingzrow's court!

This is a problem with how the snes and super famicom output the picture. If you are using Composite cables on any tv you will get this bar. The thing is it's almost never noticeable on a standard definition TV because of the way it blends the picture. The only way to get this bar to disappear on an HDTV in my experience isto find a working S-video cord to get your video and audio.

    Hope that helps.

I guess it's an issue similar to this:

The SFC is at fault. The only way to make them go away is using RGB according to SnowKitty but almost if not every US HDTV doesn't have RGB connections. Maybe an RGB to YUV encoder might work but those cost around $70.

Well, I'm actually using an S-Video cord already. I'm not super worried about it, since I do plan on putting together a scart setup sometime in the next year or two...I just wanted to make sure I didn't have a defective system.

After reading this, I plugged in one of my SNES2s and, surprise, the bar is gone. I never knew this *leaves to svideo mod*

duh... I forgot to update the original thread. Yes, the SNES 2 (which has a proper video encoder) doesn't produce said lines.

    Update: orginal thread updated.

I have a SNES that does this as well, and using an S-Video cable does not fix it. My SNES2 output's beautiful composite and S-Video (mod), but it also doesn't work with the Powerpak. If they eventually get it working, I will switch back, but until then, I'll live with the line down the center of the screen.

Wait, this is news to me. The SNES Jr. outputs better composite than the original SNES? Dang, now I'm really glad I have one.
