Default Get Marker off of carts without ruining?

I know I saw this topic recently, but I think it was before the crash? Anyways...

I went and won that, incidentillly, London blitz had NO markings on it and was perfect, but ALL of the other games have black magic marker $1.00 on them. Was Orange Clean the one that was recommended for getting that off?

I read that thread and it was something like Orange Clean or Orange Power. People also used GoofOff, but not on labels.

@Sylentwulf- The stuff metioned was Orange Glo. It's that stuff sold on TV by that Billy Mays dude. They sell it at my local Wal-Mart. Never tried it, but Geelw claims it works miracles. I personally use rubbing alcohol, 409, or Goo Gone. 409 won't damage labels unless you spray the piss out of it on your towel/rag/whatever, but it'll take elbow grease to get marker out. Goo Gone and the alcohol will damage labels. Goo Gone works good on marker, but you've got to be careful of labels. Hope this helps.

Edit... BTW, if that Goof Off shit comes in a metal can, I wouldn't recommend using it unless you want discolored carts. Same goes for Oops!.
    Yeah, that's right... WORD!

I used Goo gone since I had some handy. Worked GREAT, EXCEPT on some of the older activision labels it didn't do too good, and it DESTROYED an Epyx Winter games cart. No damage at ALL to any other labels I tried it on (About 40-50 games in all from a lot of different manufacturers)

Default this modern world deserves a modern attitude!

yeah, the problem with older labels is you don't know what solvent is going to react with the glues/inks used. in some cases, it's good to have duplicate carts of commons, for testing assorted fluids.

as far as solvents, my studies have shown the following:

metal can= bad for most stuff (including skin)
plastic bottle= works most of the time (not so harmful, unless you use it in vodka)...

Anybody ever think of using that "Oxi Clean" stuff, seems like it would do the trick, but i've never tried myself.

Plus, if you can't find it "cause it was usually sold on TV", apparently Clorox makes an over the counter brand now, I think it's called "Oxygen Action", not sure if it's as good though.

goof off and goo gone will strip the ink off of labels... only on certain games. Dunno why but ive cleaned like 8 games successfully then bam, it fucks up the label on one.

Obvious, but I'll say it - The more "gloss" plastic coating on a game, the less damage you'll do. I cleaned Space Cavern and it was like use windex on a window, 100% of the marker came off in one wipe. Not only did it not damage the label, I think it HELPED it

I use GooGone religiously to remove stickers and marker marks from NES games.. But it doesn't do a 100% job on permentant markers on NES carts. This is because the NES cart surface is like sandpaper, and you just can't get enough rubbing power to get it all out.

NES carts on the other hand are very glossy, and don't get dammaged by it.. Heck, I used gooGone on shrink wrap, and cardboard boxes w/o a problem.

But you gotta pay attention to what you are removing. Anything sticky, or looks like marker writting, it'll do.. Anything else, my 50% tap water, 50% rubbing alcohol mix (100% alchohol bottle you can buy) does an AWESOME job and cleaning the rest! (grum, dirt, old food, etc.)
