Anyone interested in looking at my "how to make a N64 handheld portable" video guide?

This video log guide has been ongoing for a few weeks now and has a good few weeks to run yet; so far up to video 10 of my video log guide to making an N64 handheld portable system.

All 10 (so far, will probably be double that by the time project is completed, lots more to do yet!) are on my Wordpress site (see/click my sig), under "N64 video log" tab on right menu on my site.

Let me know what you think please...

Also please let me know if it encourages you to have a go to make one yourself!

The videos are designed to show how to make a portable system from start to end, and also teach techniques for making a system.

People like the N64 so this seemed a good choice of system to do...

You only get titles like Super Mario DS running perfectly on the DS as they were written for it, although of course it was an N64 game originally. You surely are not trying to claim that a DS has anything like the power and capability to run N64 games at full speed via emulation: no choppy audio, no frameskip, etc - ie a true emulator, because even emulators on the PC can't do that - with the exception of a small number of N64 titles of course - all others have graphic glitches or don't run at all. No, the only way to play many N64 games properly is via original hardware not emulation.

Indeed. It is always amazing that people these days when presented with someone using original console hardware that they spent weeks or months lovingly modding the system to be made into a portable, or region free, or whatever; do the "why not getz a PSP" or "heard of a GP2x" or whatever.

Ignoring the silliness of emulating N64 on a DS, or similar; even on capable platforms you have many issues with emulation: frameskip, image artifacts, slowdowns, audio choppiness, glitches; and that is assuming you remember what button to press on what and also faffing about each time getting an emulator to work.

I recently wanted to test a couple of SNES games on emulation before deciding to buy them on ebay, so ran a trusted emulator on the PC; for some reason the emulator didn't like my graphics card, after a few seconds layers were not appearing. Found a video on YouTube of the games I wanted though. Point is, even when you have working emulators, there is no guarantee they will work later on; and PSP? Sure, I have one, but its a 3000 model on firmware 5.51 and would be so much of a pain to downgrade it isn't worth it, why bother anyway?

There is simply nothing better to play an original console game on than with an original console system and cartridge, period. Anyone who thinks differently doesn't know the difference as chances are they have never owned a SNES, N64, MegaDrive, etc - I have several, and as you see on my site, I mod them for a hobby.
