Tried the N64 RGB mod, failed...Help/Advice please

This is my first post on here besides the introduction post, so hello to everyone who reads it, and thanks in advance for any help.

It seemed to go fairly well, as far as running the wires. However I live in the states and could never find an rgb cable to use to test it. All I had was a scart cable for the gamecube, and I don't have a TV or anything that accepts scart.
So I just plugged in the normal composite cables and all I got was audio, no video. I even tried using the rf switch and got the same thing. I then took off the wires I ran for the rgb mod and still had the same problem. Audio, no video. I made sure I didn't miss anything obvious that could have caused the problem.
Does anyone know what could be causing the N64 not to display video? Any help would be great. Also, of lesser importance. Is there an rgb cable I can use to hook the N64 to my tv, assuming I ever do the mod correctly. Thank you all very much for your help.
