Haha, a modern day Air Fortress might be interesting, but I can't say it's among the classics I wistfully wish for the appearance of a remake or sequel to. Something tells me it'd probably end up like Blaster Master: Blasting Again on PSX, which is to say a reasonably enjoyable if forgettable remolding.

Blaster Master: Blasting Again... man, that was interesting but a letdown overall. Didn't help that a pretty good remake of the original game was released on the GBC around the same time.

Air Fortress is one of those games that people overlook. I'd love to see a new version, even if it was just a WiiWare release.

Air Fortress is from HAL, so I'd guess that they probably still have the rights... and that means Nintendo, so if they ever did do it it'd probably be good.

Of course, Nintendo hasn't actually brought back any of their old series in a long time... they haven't even made new Kid Icarus or Ice Climbers games, despite those characters being much more prominent. And HAL is 100% Kirby and SSB now. So I wouldn't exactly expect it... but yes, Air Fortress is a good game, and interesting too. I love jetpacks.

Other NES games with some similarities to it are Xezyz and The Guardian Legend, I think -- that is, games that are part shmup, part RPG in some way, and part something else... TGL is the best of them, but even Xexyz is probably more prominent than Air Fortress, I think. Maybe it's the simple graphics? The gameplay's good, though.

All three are good games really, play them all.

A good game, until level 6.
At that point, it becomes a pain in the ass. Even if you use an emulator and spam savestates. :P
(should've guessed that when most levels start you with 100 HP, and this one gives you 1000 or 1200)

Good point. That game had been pretty popular though, and had had a sequel, so it's more in the Kid Icarus category than Air Fortress... but sure, I guess it's possible that maybe they'd make a sequel. I just wouldn't really expect it... but given that I love games with jetpacks, it would definitely be cool if they did.
