First it was IGN, then DP, now videogames.com. I'm really getting sick of these lists. I want to see a WORST of list damn it!

Me too, but this isn't a list. This is a "hall of fame" ala GameSpy's.
Who cares what a game got ranked. As long as you like playing it, thats all that matters.
I love NES Battleship and NES Blue Marlin....I know for sure those 2 games will NERVER end up on a list. I don't care I like playing them.
That's the beauty of doing an all-time-best/worst list, though -- it gets your readers buzzing, and it's a great feature for when you've run out of ideas. Also, unlike the "power 100" lists in Premiere or Entertainment Weekly -- "Well, we have to cast Ben Affleck instead of Harrison Ford as the next Indiana Jones because he's eight spots higher on the list" -- at least the game lists are useful, in that they might bring a few gems to a reader's attention.Originally Posted by Captain Wrong

I still find these lists interesting. But, I enjoy seeing how the makers of the lists interpret games, their impact, their influences, etc on the whole industry. I also like seeing how they acknowledge the retro games, if at all. These lists get people talking because a lot of people want their favorite games acknowledged. I also like examining them for bias. They are very difficult to do well, and that was evident from anyone who put any effort into DP's attempt.
To me, it's interesting to see how these videogame experts (editors) relate the great obscure games to the moronic masses. Read Gamespot's explanation of Lode Runner. It sounds like their talking about some game that came out of the fifties for chrissake!
And as for merit... discussing a game's impact on the industry, its innovation, merits and whatnot are a lot more appealing to me than discussing whether Sony is better than Nintendo. There's been enough of that lately! x_x

You could even make a big deal at CGE about 'inducting' games into your hall of fame.
One rule I'd like to see: the *system* has to have been out of production for 5 years say. PSone wouldn't count (still being produced). DC could in a year or two.
It's neater than the "Top 100" idea in my eyes.
Time will be when the broadest river dries
And the great cities wane and last descend
Into the dust, for all things have an end
