    Default Phantasy Star box variations

I have two Phantasy Star SMS games, both boxed and US. One of the carts has smaller font on the spine that says "A four mega plus cartritge", the other one has larger font and just reads Phantasy Star on the spine. My question to others is a two part question. How many other carts of the SMS library had two different style label variations, and is there a rarity difference between the two? Thanks, John

Sounds like we're confusing two separate issues here (boxes vs. labels).

The Phantasy Star variations you're talking about are box variations, not label variations (the cartridge labels should be identical).

Anyhow, the only box/manual/label variations to speak of in the U.S. SMS library have to do with the 1990 re-issues of certain games (some of which have blue labels). The copy of Phantasy Star you have is one of these re-issues, and yes, they are quite uncommon.

These are explained thoroughly in this article...

    To add to this,
There are other variations that are box variants. These have to deal with minor variants though, such as registered trademark vs trademark.
