Mega Man 6 came in fourth?! Wow...
My vote is MM5. It is my third favourite (never played 9 and 10).
The original Mega Man at #3? On an objective basis, it's probably the worst game of the series. I know I was quite disappointed when I finally played it as a kid, after already having played 2 through 6.
I don't think it's any coincidence that the series didn't become a hit until the 2nd game.
Geez, no love for Megaman 4. I'll never understand that...anyway, for 6th place, I'll go with MM5.

Yeah well, like I said in a previous one of these threads, ranking the MM games is like ranking the Mario Party games, in that they're all pretty much the same. You'll get dozens of different rankings depending on who you talk to.
I would say 4 and 5 get pushed to the side more because they came out in the system's twilight era rather than because of any quality issues. They're sort of the forgotten NES Mega Mans. 7 would fall along those lines too, as the X series had overshadowed the main series by then, and I'm not sure many people were even aware the game existed at the time.
People tend to remember 6 because it was the last one for NES and was actively advertised by Nintendo along with the top-loader. It was also the most advanced of the NES games graphically.
Mega Man 4 was the only one I didn't play until emulation. Pair that with the kind of poor level design and that's why I don't care much for it. Even if I did play it before MM5, I still might not have liked it much in comparison to the others.
One thing is though. MM4, 5, and 6 really missed the mark when it comes to music in comparison to the first three. It's like they didn't care. Six has the worst music in the series while there's actually good music in four and five.
I enjoyed Mega Man 4 quite a bit when I was a kid. It's pretty difficult, almost on par with Mega Man 1, which isn't a bad thing IMO, and the music is good. I might get some flack for it, but I thought 7 & 8 are the worst games in the original series.
