I've posted about this on another forum, but it doesn't hurt to try here too. A picture is worth a thousand words...



Someone has suggested the caps maybe on their way out in the power supply. In lieu of any better ideas, I will replace them in the next week or so and see what happens.

If you aren't in Australia, you are probably wondering why I'm bothering. Thing is, DC's here go for a pretty penny. Even broken ones go for over $50!

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas other than replacing the caps, let me know. Otherwise I'll go ahead. Could be a useful thing to know in the future as they become rarer...

I'm sure you tried everything relevant, switching AV cable, ensuring TV can run in 50hz and 60hz mode etc. The only thing I could even suggest is the "random reset" fix where the psu pins get bent out of place but I don't think that would be the problem.

I'm in Australia too and I can't even find a Dreamcast without eBay. I wish I bought one when they were around.

Yeah, I did do the PSU pin thing, but that is really for reset problems etc. As you can see from the screenshot we have a different problem here. The screenshot by the way is Silent Scope

Just an update on this. I picked up another DC. It booted up ok so i swapped power supplies to see if that fixed the first one. It didn't, so my guess is a chip is cooked (graphics or summink).

The second DC had a broken gd rom, so i made one out of two. Of course, for the price of the two together I could have gotten one working one with some good games with it! But that's how it goes. My friend is happy now he can play Crazy Taxi again.
