Trouble with NES-Famicom adapters
I've just got a AV Famicom, and now I want to play my NES games on it as well. I got a Yobo adapter that unfortunately doesn't seem to work with the AV. Does anyone have any experience with this kind: http://cgi.ebay.com/NES-US-Nintendo-...ht_2439wt_1165
Did you try plugging in the NES cart in the opposite direction?
Looks similar to the Yobo one which does not work with AV Famicoms either.
Man those are expensive. We sell the Yobo ones for $9.99 w/free shipping. Maybe they are higher quality.
I was having problems with mine (I have the one from SAG and an av famicom), and after wiping the contacts, opening the shell and screaming at it, I found that the nes end isn't 100% secure - it has some wiggle room I guess. Having it lean toward me slightly got all my games to work.
I had the Yobo adapter a few years ago and got rid of it since it didn't work on my AV Famicom either. Would love to find an NES to Famicom adapter that works with the AV Famicom.
Do I need to take pictures of it working on the AV Famicom because it seriously does, its just really, really picky on how its positioned

Actually that would be quite nice if you did. What exactly do you have to do to get the Yobo adapter to work on an AV Famicom? I'm willing to throw done the couple dollars to buy another one if I was just stupid and doing it wrong when I owned one.Originally Posted by Zapf

You're supposed to be plugging it into the adapter with the label facing away from you, as per the included instructions.

Here it is working - note that this was the first time I've tried securing it with rubber bands to try and make it easier, it didn't help much though.
not working - will either show a grey screen, or a heavily corrupted screen

Often, with enough prodding and shifting, I can make it stay working without touching it. Not a really convenient way of doing this though - I'm almost considering selling my av famicom and just sticking with a regular nes (I don't even own any famicom games yet, I got the av fami cause I wanted a top loader with less hassle and av out =/ )
I guess its a contact problem, though I'm not sure if its between the game and the converter, or the converter and the socket on the console. I'd assume the latter - there is a lot of wiggle room around it, enough where I guess the way its positioned and the weight of the tall cart make it probably that some contact is not touching correctly

Suggestion: small adhesive foam strip inside the cartridge slot. Tighter fit, less wiggle.

im considering that, though it probably would make more sense to put it on the converter itself,
Alright, I've been dicking around with it some more - wedging a popsicle stick or a some double sided tape (one side still covered) between the adapter and the slot edge helps some, but not consistently. I found a better way though - Only insert the adapter about halfway into the socket - it apparently is making a much better connection that way (the contacts on the fami side of the adapter are very short for some reason).
However, I'm having some problems with at least two carts with this adapter. When I tested Gauntlet (tegen cart), I was getting consistent corruption in the first dungeon (didn't try beyond that). On Castlevania 3, part of the intro is missing (sound is there), there is graphical corruption on the title screen and the name select screen, and on that intro animation between choosing your name and the actual first level. After that animation, it just goes to a black screen. Both of these carts work fine on my brother's NES.
Stoneagegamer, is there any way you could (or anyone else) test the converter with these two games on a regular famicom or the av fami? I want to see if the problem is with the adapter itself, or with it interacting with the av famicom, or if its just me.

Does anyone have experience with this adapter? I've seen it in at least one youtube video (except they were using a regular famicom, argh!). It looks a little better made (front contacts are the same length as an actual cartridge as opposed to the yobo one, which I have a feeling is my real problem w/ the av fami)
Ouch, for that much money your better off just getting an old NES to play the games on.
yeah... though I've kinda run out of inputs (and room) on / around my tv. I grabbed it anyway, if only for the chance to get some closure on this matter =/
