DuckTales better than Mega Man?

Lately I have been playing some Famicom, and really getting into some old platformers. Naturally I went straight to the Mega Man, because everyone knows that is one of the best series in gaming history.

...then, I popped in DuckTales. Not only did I enjoy the game more than Mega Man, but significantly more.

I determined that DuckTales and its sequel bested Mega Man. Better stage design, more colorful, more variety in gameplay; it is just a better game. It is also a landmark because this is a licensed game, which generally were crap during the NES era (here's looking at you LJN).

Does anyone agree with this sentiment?

Nevermind Mega Man 11 for PSN/Wii/360, give me a new DuckTales!

While I wouldn't rank them above Mega Man, the DuckTales games are good. If you like those, you should give Darkwing Duck a shot, it's pretty awesome.

I agree with DuckTails being better on every count except when compared to Mega Man 2-3. Otherwise, yea I'd rather play DuckTails any day of the week over Megaman 1,4-6, and I kinda consider it on par with Mega Man 2 over all. Mega Man 1 was a great game for its time, but it also had issues, so there is no way I could say its in the same league as DuckTails is. Mega Man 4-6 were just a bit too dull for me. Mega Man 3, well, that ones tops for me.

Whats most important anyway though is how you yourself feels about the games. Any of us here telling you we agree or disagree doesn't really matter because were not the ones sitting in your house playing the stuff. You def have good taste either way, DuckTails is a Nes classic. Part of the reason it earned 13th best place on Nintendo Powers Nes list. I'll be honest; I didn't care much for DuckTales. It's not bad, but I felt it wasn't quite as good as everybody made it out to be. Now, the two games based on Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, on the other hand...

According to the title, I was under the assumption we were talking about Mega Man 1, and compared to that game, yes, Duck Tales is a better experience by far. Now, if you are referring to Mega Man 2, it's as good as that game, maybe better, depending on what mood I'm in. If people want to laugh or disagree, I don't really care, most "gamers" are FPS online addicts that do nothing but trash talk anyway, I'm good on my own.

Now that I think about, you are absolutely right. Damn Halo/Call of Duty junkies sipping chocolate milx and making fun of our moms! They are making us "hardcore gamers" look really bad.

I definitely prefer Ducktales 1 and 2 to the Mega Man series (I own 1, 3 and 4 and have played 2), but I think the games are just a tad too different to be compared.

Darkwing Duck Vs. Megaman on the other hand is more comprehensible. But even then you know, I prefer Darkwing. It has just a tad bit more variety to the gameplay and isn't as hard.

They're all quality games though. But I prefer Ducktales and Darkwing Duck overall to Mega Man.

Thats pretty true. As a kid I didn't play Mega Man 1 until a tad after Mega Man 2 was released. All I had ever heard about Mega Man 1 prior to actually playing it was that it was extremely hard, which really wasn't the case. Really all it was is that some of the spots in the game required some tight timing. That and if you didn't understand the concept on the boss battles system, using certain boss abilities against others, that made the game unforgiving. I guess some kids just could not handle that concept back then very well. For me my major complaint actually is some of the bosses are way way too weak if you do them in a certain order. That and some of the stages like Elec Mans are just really too easy to blow through if you know what you are doing.

Exactly. DuckTales is better than MM1 and MM6 (IMO) and it might be equal with MM5, but 2,3, and 4 are quite awesome.

Glad to see some fellow DuckTales fans on the forum. I honestly didn't know if I was going to get flamed or if there was similar thoughts.

Upon further review of this topic, I decided to play Mega Man and DuckTales on Gameboy tonight, and the results were the same as my Famicom test. I guess that is a less fair comparison however, because the Mega Man Gameboy games are pretty meh.

Mega Man 5 on the GB is the only original game; the others are just rehashes of the NES games.

Ducktales is better than some of the weaker Mega Man games in the series (MM4 & MM6 IMO) and equal more or less to some of the others (MM5, MM1), but you would be hard pressed to convince most people that it's better than MM2 or MM3. I've never played much of Ducktales 2, so I can't comment on it.
