    Heh, n00b5.

Ahh, just kiddin'. I'd love to see your guys at CGE this year, it'll be my third! And trust me, it's gotten better every year.

But what I really want to see this year is more NES boxed titles. And get me over there quick, 'cuz otherwise I may end up blowing all my money on another new-old system, like I have the past two years...

There are some new kids in town representin' NES, they're called "THE LOST LEVELS" and are planning on putting on quite a show of NES-ware. I'm hoping they come loaded with boxed NES goodies as well, in fact I'm COUNTING on it.

Not exactly. It's a "consortium" of NES people who are teaming up to bring you a super double booth of Nintendo action. Several of the members are DP Forum regulars - I'll leave it up to them to reveal their identities, but these are great people to lead the Nintendo charge, and they've got some creative ideas for the show.

Right ON! You could get even closer to completing your collection, and I could make mind more worth seeing (I've only got about 229 loose).

Sounds like you got some really great exhibitors so far, keep'em comin'!

This gang of miscreants will have a plethora of newly-discovered, unreleased games available for free play, as well as hundreds of NES games for sale and a prize raffle with prizes including authentic prototype cartridges!"

I'd love to hear more about Lost Levels (the magazine) -- is this going to be generally available after the show?

Wow, speculation without any provocation. I love it.

    Ahem.

Lost Levels is a not-for-profit, monthly magazine (likely an e-zine, though we're working on a cheapo print version) based on the premise that every video game is hiding a story. If a picture is worth a thousand words, 256 kilobytes of raw binary data are worth a million. We figure that if we can present you with just a reasonable percentage of that, we've done our jobs.

What this ultimately means is that Lost Levels will pursue and present articles focusing on the developers behind the games. We'll discuss with them the creative process, the walls they ran into in the process, the gaming industry of the time, and with any luck we'll have an interesting story to give you. We've already got stories of sabotaged code, corporate strongarming, and a hyper-sensitive Japanese guy by the name of Bamboo. And we haven't even published our first issue yet!

Each month will feature our centerpiece, a monthly spotlight focusing on a game that never hit store shelves. We'll present hands-on experiences and reviews, we'll try our damndest to track down anyone directly or indirectly responsible for the game, and either way we'll present our readers with a peek behind the curtains at what they're not supposed to have seen.

In short, we're digging up the lost levels of the gaming industry.

So. You know I'm biased toward the NES. And you know we're going to have unreleased games for you. With that said:

Damn RedEye, sounds like you guys were working your asses off. I love it, if you get a "cheapo print version" out I'd definately buy one. Impressive indeed.

Hmm... That doesn't involve the SuperGrafx, does it?

Ah. But not even Bamboo is related to SuperGrafx?

Hell, he could be. All I know of Bamboo is that he designed Adventures in the Magic Kingdom for the NES. He's just kind of mentioend in passing in my interview with the game's producer, Darlene Waddington.

Gotcha. I was kind of hoping someone had found out the real story behind the guy doing the SuperGrafx version of Strider (I think... hope I got that right) -- the rumor is the guy freaked out in the middle of the job and topped himself, but I've always wondered where that rumor came from anyway...

That's the rumor I had heard also. I think it started in newsgroups, but I've seen it posted on more than one page. Truth be told I think the game was progressing slowly and they canned it because the SuperGrafx was a complete disaster.
