Very cool art style on the new Zelda. Kind of mix between Twilight Princess's realism and Windwaker's cel-shading. A real slick look.
FYI: There's an all black version of the 3DSi...thank god. Didn't really like the two-toned version on the stage.

The crowd reaction to Zelda seemed much more muted when compared to Twilight Princess's reveal. Looks... interesting, the trailer wasn't particularly 'epic'. Hopefully the control issues were just down to interference.
Kirby looks sweet. 3DS looks awesome, if the 3D effect actually works then this could be a day one purchase. Price was never mentioned though. Kid Icarus is a definite must buy. Nintendogs + Cats will be a system seller.
Also no mention of Wii Vitality or Pokemon Black & White? Nintendo always seems to quietly ignore the Pokemon series.

What's Steel Diver?
They never gave the specs of the 3DS. Is it really the Tegra powering it? What's the screen resolutions?
I love the DS, but the resolution has always hurt 3D gaming on it.
I'm definitely interested in the 3DS.
Did they mention price?

From what I've heard it's supposed to be backwards compatible. It should be easy for them to add the ability to turn off the 3D, they would either completely shut down one of the "eye views" or probally copy what the other one is displaying...or you could close one of your eyes or wear an eyepatch.

They said you could control the 3D effect. Toggling it anywhere between maximum effect to completely off. I'm expecting something akin to a volume control.
I didn't watch the whole thing but caught the part on the 3DS. Was mildly interested (3D screen, analog slide...ok, two cameras in front...that's pretty cool) but from the hardware I wasn't "Sold". Then Kid Icarus came on. My jaw hit the desk. Ok, Nintendo, NOW you have my attention!
As long as that sucker is DS compatible (which I'm sure it is), I will get one. If that's the potential-I'm very excited. If Animal Crossing is not just a backwards retread....it's a day one purchase.
Animal Crossing looks different, the art style makes the characters look smoother and taller.
That would make sense. It's effectively rendering 2 cameras. An analog control could move the virtual cameras closer or farther away to each other. At '0', the cameras would basically be the same and the 3D effect would completely go away.
I seriously doubt I'll be getting one any time soon but I am looking forward to demoing it at the store when it comes out.

Anyone have a link to the full press conference? Couldn't find one yet.
Annnnd aaaaaah Ocarina of Time is being remade for the 3DS!

There was so much that Nintendo didn't show/mention during their conference!

It's a pretty easy effect to do if you think about it. I can imagine all the major games from the N64 making their way to the 3DS.
Exactly when did they do this? Rehashes of their old franchises is fan service, not something for the hardcore gamers. The 3DS was the most hardcore thing they showed, though the first party games they've announced are fan service. They did largely get away from the extreme casual market this year, but they didn't show anything that would sell you on their stuff unless you were going to buy their franchises anyway. Their best presentation in years, but take away the 3DS and it was a pretty sad showing - not that MS or Sony did anything special.
My opinion:
3DS before the press conference -- Meh. Something I'd pick up eventually.
3DS after the press conference -- Hell yes! I want one now
The Kid Icarus announcement alone is enough to make me run and get my preorder in. I've been waiting for a new one for over 20 years and it looks like they've done a good job of transitioning the game to 3D. The huge amount of 3rd party game support certainly doesn't hurt either.
I can't say I'm very enthusiastic about the new Zelda game (I never got into any of the N64/GameCube versions either), but the 3DS made my day. Release it already!
The casual vs. hardcore concept is the most asinine thing I've ever heard. "Casual" is a word self-proclaimed "hardcore" players toss around to make themselves feel better. I saw neither hardcore nor casual in Nintendo's conference. I saw new and old school made new.
I see your point, but I am like that with baseball. I am a hardcore stats guy, and 'm always saying how I hate how the casual fan puts Nolan Ryan on a pedestal, when he's not even top 5 of the last 25 years, and how I despise how the casual fan says "Ken Griffey Jr. is second only to Willy Mays in defensive center fielders" when he's not even the best of the last 15 years.
