Other than DSiWare, is there really a reason to buy a DSi when the 3DS is looming on the horizon?
I have a feeling the 3DS is going to be a good bit more expensive. I'm hearing and seeing reports that it looks to be around $229. Nothing official.
And, lets face it. Most DS's get purchased for kids. Don't get me wrong, my DSi sees more play time than any of my other consoles, but it is hard to find a kid that doesn't have a DS.
Which reminds me, the price drop is on my son's birthday. Maybe I should go that morning and pick it up instead of getting it now....
Are the DSi XL still only in those 2 awful colors?
Oh yes, I'm getting the Midnight Blue XL.
I'm with Garrett on this one. Why purchase the DSi when you can spend $50 extra or, in the worst case scenario, $100 extra, still play all DS and DSi games, plus play 3DS games. More than likely everyone interested already has atleast an original DS or DS lite, so not like you can't play almost all of the games.
3DS is probably going to be able to download all DSiware as well, probably being renamed 3DSware on the system itself.
I'm guessing that the 3DS is going to be pushed more towards the "core" market, while the DSi will continue to be promoted to the "casual" market who could care less about 3D.
I would still love to pick up a DSiXL at some point, if only just for those beautiful screens.
What makes you think DSiWare wouldn't be available on the 3DS?
There's plenty of good reasons to purchase something like the DSiXL.
For starters, the d-pad on the 3DS that is critical to many a DS title is being moved to a secondary position on the 3DS in favor of an analog stick. Also the 4:3 screens of every DS since the original are larger then the 3" 4:3 touch screen of the 3DS and the 3" 4:3 area of the top widescreen.
Those two two reasons alone make it worthwhile buying a member of the DSi line for original DS titles instead of waiting on the 3DS. The DSiXL with it's 4.2" screens and d-pad placement is likely going to remain best way to experience the handheld in the future even when the 3DS hits the market.
