Default Happy 25th Birthday (Anniversary) NES!

The Nintendo Entertainment System was released on October 18th 1985 in America. 25 years later, still one of the funnest systems around! I commemorate this event by posting a congratulations video, and brief history of the video games and accessories.

    Official NES Birthday bump!

I'm more excited about this day than my own birthday. If there was a place to go and celebrate this, I would go, possibly to thenespunk's 48 hour NES playing marathon here in SD, but I have work and school. I salute you little grey box of joy!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM!

I'm eagerly awaiting my replacement 72 pin connector so I can both celebrate NES's birthday and play Castlevania for Halloween!

I still remember the day I bought mine - August 5, 1986. I spent all summer saving up for it, after seeing a giant, one page, full color ad for the thing in an issue of USA Today, earlier that Summer.

So I spent all summer saving up the $250, and when my Dad took me to Target to buy school supplies that year, I finally bought my NES Deluxe Set and a copy of Super Mario Bros - The Deluxe set only came with Duck Hunt and Gyromite. My dad bought SMB because he was "proud that I had managed to save up my money to make my first major purchase", and that was the game I really wanted, when I first saw an NES..

It was the first console I ever bought on my own. I never will forget the night I brought it home, and was up until about midnight playing Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. Gyromite got ignored for the first week, or so...

Wow...it's been that long! Happy 25th, NES!!!!

My brother bought the NES with Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt for the family X-mas '89. I enjoyed playing that beautiful gray box! Eventually it got moved upstairs to my room. I still remember watching in awe as my dad would play Duck Hunt for what seemed like forever. I used to play the game in his memory so often, but no longer am able because the Zapper does not work with LCD televisions.

I quickly got a subscription to Nintendo Power...first issue: Jan/Feb '90 with Batman as the cover game. The guides and issues helped me play some awesome games for the system (and some stinkers, too!)

Long after the newer systems are gone...people are STILL going to be playing that little toaster that saved video games from an uncertain future!

I still remember one Christmas morning back in 1986 and my dad opening the NES and... well, I was five, and I had no idea what an NES was, except that it allowed my dad to move some fat guy around a screen and jump on ducks with shells.

Bowser scared the crap out of me when I was five... not so much these days...

Happy birthday, NES! You helped me waste away my childhood!

I received my replacement 72 pin connector today, and it works great!

I discovered that my copy of Zelda II still has my save game from 20 years ago. Amazing.

I may not have much interest in the system these day, having long since lost my original console to a fire over 18 years ago, but the fond memories have lingered with me all the same. I wasn't into games as much back then as I am presently, but somehow despite my poor skill and weak interest I probably had as much if not more fun. Games like Ducktales, 1943, the Super Marios, Excitebike, River City Ransom, Golf, Tetris, and the unforgettable Paperboy 2 all hold good memories for me. My old system is gone but not forgotten.

Here's to a remarkable home console! Happy Birthday NES.

Owning an actual NES was an old dream I fulfilled less than two years ago. I spent my late childhood/early teen years playng nesclones (as did most gamer kids in Brazil), and I drooled over the real NES ads.

Some of the carts I play today are the same I used back then...but it's not the same thing. There's something magical anbout that thing, and the whole process of inserting the cart, pushing it down, closing the little lid and playing the game on that squared pad. I love my NES to the guts, and I'm certainly playingit with my daughter this week; it's her favorite system so far
