    Default Games from Redbox

So I see that Redbox is finally getting somewhat of a clue and offering game rentals at $2 per day in some locations (not mine for now). While I think $2 per day might be a LITTLE high, it seems like a big step in the right direction. I'd probably go pick up MoH tonight after work and play through the single player campaign for $2, but for games like Mario Galaxy 2, $2/day would probably turn into $20 pretty quick. At that point I'd really rather just go buy a copy if I wanted to play it. I'll probably end up using it to demo games for a day before deciding to make the purchase. I like the idea better than Gamefly from a collector's standpoint.

    Thoughts?

Redbox kiosk was placed back near where I live, so I have to check if they added games.

It's a bigger kiosk, so there is a chance.

Most of the ones around me offer Bluray, but don't seem to have games yet. You can check here:

Hmm... It looks like the Redboxes near me added games. I'll probably try this out. Yeah, finishing a game at $2/night could get expensive, but I see it more as a "try before you buy" thing for games that don't have demos. I could rent a game for $2, play it for a couple hours, and have a good idea if I want to buy it.

    Thanks for the link.

    Two odd things:

1)According to the site, no games are available near my area (no surprise, but...)

2)A kiosk is not identified in the Walgreens close to where I live and I know it's there (passed by it today in the morning).

So there might be a chance. I may go there tomorrow to see.

So what happens when people use a gift credit card and then don't return the game? With movies it's not really worth it, but a brand new $60 game, buy a gift credit card use $2 for the rental and then just spend the rest of what is left on the gift credit card on other items. For those people who don't collect and don't care about the cases, there's a free game right there. Then again, these people probably have modded systems anyways.

I could see this being useful for party nights. After all, it would be easier to just rent a party game then pay the full price.

Of course none of the redboxes near me have this yet. They just did get Blu-ray though so I'd expect it to be a while before they get games. I'd probably use this to try games or check out how much they are selling used games for. While I'd like to have the box and case, I prefer my games to be cheap.

Ha. I can't believe I never thought of people doing this. Is it that common?

    Actually...you make a valid point.

But does Redbox accept such cards? Common sense would state "no", but I would love to find out.

Default Redbox is renting games now.

    http://www.redbox.com/games

They're $2 a night, which isn't terrible if you intend on renting and plowing through a title. Or a good way to essentially demo a title for a day to see if it's worth buying.

I was surprised to see that a good number of machines local to the Cincinnati area actually have games, and not just the major cities like NYC/Chicago/LA.

Selection doesn't seem half bad, either. Mostly AAA stuff.

Doubt I'll use them personally, but there's bound to be someone on here that this news will benefit.

Figured it'd eventually happen. I may give it a try, so many games I would get down the road that I can try now, buy when the price drops like a stone.

Checked out my closest Redbox and they have a whopping 2 games available lol. I guess if you wanna try out the game quickly then $2 isn't bad but if you plan on keeping it a week, you're already up to $14...

    ... Now?

Mine's had games for two months or more.

Seems like a good deal to me. Perfect for one night game needs or to try before you buy. It would never make sense for a long game that would take a lot of time to complete - but there's GameFly for that.

$2 isn't bad but it would have been nice if that allowed you two full days.

I have a grocery store with a RedBox that opens at 7am. Say I get there about 8:30am, I could rent a game, and then return it at about 8:30pm on Sunday evening. This way, I would actually have the game for a full 36 hours. Not quite 2 full days, but...

I might have to try out Duke Nukem for $2 sometime

They just started offering this locally as well... I live out in the middle of nowhere, so I didn't expect Redbox game offerings would apply to my area, but sure enough, they have 4-5 games available just down the street from me. Nice option to have, seeing as I never cared much for Gamefly's service.
