Default Found: Donkey Kong Country Competition Cartridge

So, I made a post last week in Retrogaming about the values of collector games, (I hope you check the thread the discussion is pretty good.)

    http://box422.bluehost.com/~videogc7...d.php?t=148760

But today I'm only curious about one. My 1995 Copy of The Blockbuster World Video Game Championship 2 - Donkey Kong Country Competition Cartridge. I ordered this copy new from The Nintendo Super Power Supplies catalog.

This is what I wrote in my last post about the game:
After finding my old game collection the other day, I came across a gem I thought was long gone. In the Winter of 1995, my usual Super Power Supplies catalog came in the mail and OF COURSE I picked a Christmas gift from it within 5 minutes of tearing open the plastic wrap around my Nintendo Power. The "at random- BUT TOTALLY EXCLUSIVE-HAVE TO HAVE IT MOM OR I WONT EAT ANYMORE." product I picked was a weird Donkey Kong Blockbuster game for $35. I was a weird kid, who liked weird stuff, so I asked for it. I was too young for the competition so I had no knowledge of the significance of the game. The game arrives. I pop it in, and low and behold (as many of us have found out over time) The game play sucked. Five minutes to run through a game I had already played through about 1000 times? Okay, well it's interesting and different, I'll just put a cover on the bottom since it didn't come with one to keep the dust out and put it aside. "Maybe it'll be worth a trade-in on DK2 or something?" -I thought. I played that game twice. It has sat in the box, with the same cover "to keep the dust out" until I stumbled upon it this past weekend. A mint copy of The Donkey Kong Country Competition Cartridge from the Blockbuster Championship 2.

I did my own research and I'm well aware what it is going for on the major sites but this is more of a "I'm curious what people think and if anyone would be interested." So I'm putting up some pictures and I will check for emails or posts if anyone is curious. I'm curious as to what everyone's thoughts are. I didn't just want to throw it up on ebay.

Thanks again, please feel free to ask any questions and I'll take more pictures or what not. I tried to take the pictures in a way that they couldn't have been shooped as I'm not a troll and I can take more pictures to prove it.

    Ok, Thanks again guys,
    -Chris

A ton, I've never ever ever seen a copy of the competition cartridge, let alone a complete one.

That $35 investment your parents made is nothing less than gold for you. CIB copies can run $700-$1000. Even loose carts can get $300.

The thing that I'm confused about is: as I'm looking around the internets, there isn't very much recent information about the cartridge. Is the interest in the game just not there anymore or is it really that rare that they just don't pop up often?

Both. Not only are they QUITE rare, but only a handful of people are interested in em at all. On the upside....that handful of people generally has DEEP pockets

Well I like this forum a lot and I'd like to offer first dibs on it here. (I think I'm going to sell it, I can put that money into something I can play.) Are the buying forums here a good place? If this isn't the place does anyone have any idea where I should advertise the game? Or is it just an Ebay item?

    Thanks again guys. (and ladies)

Yeah, that's the thing. While it's very rare and can go for exorbitant amounts, the DKC Competition Cart is for a very niche market, and people like that don't roll around too often. I like the Competition Cart and would love to own one to run tournaments with maybe, but the price is just too high for me. I don't pay more than $60-80 range for games.

Nintendoage.com is probably your best bet if you're looking for a buyer.

You'll get plenty of offers I'd think. Ebay you MAY get more money...but don't forget about eBay listing fees and closing fees on top of the 4% that Paypal takes

I'd say offer it up here and at NintendoAge with plenty of clear large pics. If you don't like the offers you get, eBay the sucker. Oh yeah...and on an item like that....DON'T ship first!

I have a quick question. According to This rarity guide:

    RarityGuide.com

It claims that a NIB is worth $1400 while a CIB is worth $950.

Now from my understanding all of these carts were rented first then sold. Are they insinuating that there are a few carts out there that were never played? Or are we aiming for barely used and in pristine condition packages?

    Thanks Again.

Rarityguide is godawful. All their prices/rarities are pulled out of their ass. Don't bother using it or taking anything it says with any confidence at all.

OK, thanks a lot again. Just got a pretty solid confirmation of the value through a real reliable source and I'm going to post the came up on Buying and selling forum. I really appreciate all the help with this.
