Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2. I've attempted Streets of Rage 3 on multiple occassions but, assuming there are the same amount of stages as there are on the other two games, it seems near impossible. The only way I'd probably beat this one is keep using the quick dash attack with the robot/android.

The lack of decent controls and sketchy hit detection kind of kept me from enjoying what I think would have otherwise been an enjoyable game.

Pretty damn amazing game. I wasn't a big fan of the first Portal, but this really took the cake (no pun intended). The voice acting is what realy makes this game fun and the much more detailed story keeps the fun-ball rolling, to say nothing of the interesting gameplay.

Figured I would join in on this thread. Going back through, I've beaten the following this year:

    1. Sonic the Hedgehog
    2. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
    3. Streets of Rage 2
    4. Vectorman
    5. Earthworm Jim
    6. Earthworm Jim 2
    7. NHL 94 (if winning a Stanley Cup counts)
    8. FIFA 95 (if winning league title/winners league title counts)

And finally... after 15 goddamn years:

    9. Mega Man X

Decided yesterday that I would not rest until Sigma had finally been beaten. 21 hours later he is history!

Altered Beast. Since I've picked up Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection I'm replaying a lot of classics. I tried out Altered Beast arcade and I suck at it. I don't like how it controls. Is it bad emulation for the arcade version? It feels like the response rate comes almost half a second after you take an action. The Genesis games are fine though. Aside from giving you better all around control though, normal mode on the Genesis version of Altered Beast is still easy mode compared to the arcade version.

I played this game back when it was new on the PS2. It's as amazing now as it was then. Interesting take on both stealth games and 3D platformers in general. And the story, while simple, is full of fun, humor and really pretty comic styled pages.

GAMEBOY COLOR: These the real cartridges, Sega pack discs, or emulation? I ask `cause you've knocked off a few impressive games: Kid Chameleon, the Eccos, and Dynamite Headdy--the last I would've thought too annoying to beat. Streets of Rage 3 is damned nasty isn't it? As you appear to have broad taste I'll ask whether you've ever managed Bayou Billy, which I--not a grinder--rate as my hardest, even over Kid Chameleon; though, to guess from the forum threads, most folk would rate it Phantasy Star 2 (easy!). Or, to pursue a more conversational tack, what's the hardest you've beaten that you enjoyed playing while beating it, as opposed to its being a grudge match? Mine'd be Kid Chameleon or Sky Shark. Good day.

Most of these games are part of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection or a similar compilation.

Surprisingly so, yes. I don't remember this game being difficult when I was 10, but damned if time hasn't dulled my memory. I think it's partly due to me growing out of liking that genera.

Never played Bayou Billy, but I know of it. I assume I'll eventually track down a copy (or maybe just emulate it....) and spend some me time with it.

That's a good question. I tend to not find entire games hard, just aspects/areas of a given game, such as World 6 in Mario 2, half the missions in Jak 2 and all of the mini-games in the Sly Cooper series. I guess the only game I've really come across that struck me as a pain in the ass all the way through was Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, which just confuses the hell out of me, as I'm normally good with the Puyo Puyo type games.

I feel like this version was easier than the original. Maybe I'm just better at these type of games now than I was a few years ago, maybe the difficult parts of the game have been refined in this version (a lot of the difficulty came from poor hit detection in a few key parts), or maybe already knowing where the story was going helped take a lot of the confusion out.
