    Resident Evil 2
    Silent Hill 2
    Friday the 13th

Re2 is by far the scariest to me.

What's all this recent stuff? If SINISTAR doesn't instill pure terror in your heart, you're suffering from sensory deprivation.

Didn't we already cover this topic recently? Anyway, my votes for the original Clock Tower. Screw Resident Evil. You've never experienced true fear until you are hiding in a bathroom stall and Scissorman comes in looking for you. The music is also incredibly tense and really adds to the creepy atmosphere of the game.

Hey Mustang93, you weren't here then but check out this thread:

We've had a discussion on this at one point, my choice btw was Silent Hill, but check out some of the posts in that thread, there are some very funny replies.

Uninvited, for the NES? Naah. It uses the same engine as Shadowgate. How scary could it be?

Sweet Home (fan translated) for the NES, now, that's quite scary, I'm told.

I think the scariest game I've ever seen was the Atari 800 version of ET. When you capture all the phone pieces, you see a picture of ET with a digitized voice saying "ET phone home." The problem was that the technology was so limited, that ET's voice just sounded warped and evil.

    ET PHOOONE HOOOME......

That gave me nightmares ever since.

My second vote goes to the giant teeth in Slime World. Every time, they jump out suddenly and swallow my guy whole, and every time, I jump and yell like a sucker. Stupid giant teeth.

DC Resident Evil Code Veronica. I was playing the game at 3:00AM and dark scarry and empty house...scared the crap out of me.

Disaster Report isn't exactly scary, but it's certainly nerve-wracking.

I think Silent Hill 2 is probably the scariest game I've played. Just walking into that one room where there's 3 zombies doing the nasty. Ugh, time to turn the lights back on. Nightmare on Elm Street for the NES is pretty good, too.

What system was the game with that Sinistar guy on? I would like to play it sometime.

If we're talking "scary," the RE series has all the cheap thrills you'd ever want. If we're talking genuine horror, it's Fatal Frame, the Silent Hill series, and (I know I'm alone on this one) D2 for the Dreamcast.

(I'm pretty sure we have covered this before but it's a fun topic so I'll contribute)

Sorry PDF - anything older than the last couple of generations just can't scare me. Unless you're talking about MicroPlay's prices ($20 for Pac-Man?!?)

My one vote would go to Eternal Darkness. I *loved* this game - it's still my favourite 'cube game. The sanity metre was clever. Hearing voices and knocks was freaking brilliant. This game spooked me like no other game has yet.

I've only played the demo of Fatal Frame but it seemed promising (I've picked up the game but haven't played it yet).

I'm a recent Resident Evil player (I've got all four games on Gamecube, haven't finished any of them yet, or even started any really). And I have to say that they seem a bit overrated after having played Eternal Darkness first. There's nothing scary to me about a freaking black screen with a door opening on it. Kills the mood for me. I was *so* hoping that RE0 would've dropped that.

Silent Hilll 2 I just bought as well but haven't played other than making sure it works (I'm getting bad at buying games just 'cause I see 'em used and cheap, I should stop that). But it's got some potential. I like the atmosphere (all I've done is wander out of the can and into the fog shrouded street). I think I might find and buy Silent Hill first.

    Frankenstein's Monster for the 2600.

When Frankenstein would stomp towards the screen, I would run and hide. Of course, I was very young.

I agree with PDF, Sinistar is creepy.

I didn't really find Eternal Darkness to be that scary, it just did an excellent job of setting a creepy mood. The bathroom scene did get a jump out me, though.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

Uninvited and Shadowgate are supposed to be scary, though they aren't THAT scary. However, I always thought Deja Vu was creepy.
