To Polish or not to Polish?

Who "polishes" their consoles when cleaning them off - I'm talking about stuff like STP, Armour All, or whatever.

My roomie had some STP around when I was cleaning out my TandyVision one. For the hell of it, I sprayed it down and polished it - its looks great - definitely an improvement and got rid of some of the scuff marks.

Who else does this, what do you use, and are you satisfied by the results?

That's interesting.

I've never tried it or even heard of anyone trying that until now. Kinda makes sense I suppose, maybe something we can try this year for a few items at CGE, like the consoles for play.

Goo Gone works wonders, as long as you don't get it anywhere close to a label of any kind...takes them right off .

The STP didn't do anything to the labels on the bottom of my TandyVision One. I half-heartedly tried not to spray them. But I buffed them. Maybe its the type of label - it's not very papery, more plasticy. I've used goo gone on my consoles to remove stickers, but never thought of using it to poilish them. It seems alot more "greasy" than the STP. I'll do some testing next time I get something I need to clean.

Very true....Goo Gone is a tad more greasy and requires a "wash down" with water...never tried STP....hmmmmm...

I don't like that bootlegged orangey smell of Goo Gone either. I always wash my hands immediately after using it.

I use Novus plastic pollish and scratch remover on my hand held systems. I got my Electronic Perfection so shiny it almost glows. Novus comes in 3 grades and works great.

Hmm the 2nd grade looks intriguing... have you used it? Does it really restore discoloured plastics? part of my SNES is kinda yellowish, so is my CoCo2. I'm curious if this would tone that down.... hmmm Might be worth it to try out a bottle.

I have used it to decrease the appearance of scratches. I have not used it to restore color. I will have to try that out. I doubt it will make a yellow SNES gray again.
