    Default Dreamcast Won't Play Game

I bought a couple of games from a member here. Crazy Taxi and Rush 2049. Crazy Taxi works fine as do all my other games but Rush 2049 will not play. When it try's to load it just goes to the main menu. If you chose play it shows the Sega logo screen then goes right back to the menu screen. If you go into music it shows that Rush 2049 is loaded but won't play.

Luckily I have another Dreamcast to test on, which I just sold, and it loads on that Dreamcast. So it isn't the disk.

Anyone know what I could do to fix this or maybe it's a known issue? Any ideas?

I had a problem like this (I don’t know if it’s the same) games that used the clock/calendar wouldn’t play I don’t remember if they loaded in the CD player but they wouldn’t play just went to the menu. The problem was the battery was dead after I replaced it everything worked.

Mine also made me reset the date and time every startup before I replaced the battery.

Well, I tried holding the lid down. Turned the unit upside down. Cleaned the lens. None of that worked. My date has to be reset ever so often so I'll have to give that a try.

I did get it to work after clicking on play so many times. However, it still leads me to believe there's something amiss.

Well, it is a rechargeable battery try leaving the DC on for a while charging up the battery and try to play it, if it works then your battery was to low on its charge. If the next time you go to play it does the same thing your battery is not holding a charge and needs replacing.

If you do replace the battery just remember it’s a rechargeable one don’t just put a 2032 in there.

I think it's BR2032, but not entirely sure.

You mean don't put a CR2032 in there, use an LR2032 which is rechargeable like you said.

As for the problem though, I've had a copy of Soul Calibur that only seemed to work with one system. It's very possible you do have a bad disc or a disc that is on the way out.

Yea, that's it I didn't have time to look up what the rechargeable 2032 was called. I just knew that it wasn't the "average" 2032. You got the gist of it though.

I've had a few games over the years that did the same thing, and I was never able to remedy it. I'm not an expert, but I believe the Dreamcasts had slight variations in their manufacturing that caused inconsistent playback between models. Correct me if I'm wrong.
