Default Sega Saturn Power Supply Component

    Hi Everyone,

I recently came into possession of a Japanese V1 Sega Saturn, I noticed that it had a problem with the power supply but I quickly noticed that the fuse and a component next to it is damaged. I have since replaced the fuse but I can't identify what component is. On the circuit board it has 3 different markings near it and I'm not sure which one is for the damaged component, these are CN5, CH1, SA1.

It kind of looks like a black cap.

Is anyone able to help me so I can get my saturn going again ?

    Thanks,

It appears to be an MOV. I would be very curious as to why it is blown out.

I don't think the replacement value is too critical, it just needs to be appropriate for a 100-120v system. Before powering it back up, check that you don't read a dead short across the input terminals.

Thanks for that. I do believe that your are correct. I would say that someone decided to plug the Sega Saturn straight into mains power (240v) and blew it up. Only problem now is getting a 135voltish MOV.

The 240v thing came to mind, although without having your location set, I wasn't sure how likely it could be

    Thanks,

You were correct it was a MOV, it has now been replaced and is working 100%.

    Thanks Again
