Default Saturn import cart stopped saving

My Sega Saturn import cart (can't remember it's official name, the one that allows you to play any region game and acts as huge memory cart) has stopped allowing me to save new files to it.

It can't be the battery as the old saves are still there, but when I try to save anything new, it tells me it has saved and then I turn the Saturn back on, the new save files have gone. Anyone know the problem?

You cannot save directly to Action Replay carts from within the game. Most likely your saving to the Saturn's internal system memory and the battery is dead so that's why the save disappeared.

This is correct. If you have a PAR 4 in 1 you need to transfer files back and forth between the cartridge and the internal memory using the PAR 4 in 1's memory manager. Make sure you save the changes before shutting down.

That's what I have been doing.

My internal Sat memory is fine. The battery was replaced a little over a year ago.

I transfer the files, save the changes. Then quit and re-enter the memory to make sure they are still there (they are). It is only when I turn the power off and later reboot the save files have gone.

Flash chips are probably bad. Last one I looked at used 28F010 or some similar variant PLCC type chips for storage.
