Default best wired xbox 360 controller?

I'm looking for a wired 360 controller to connect to my PC.

I was going to get one of the wireless receivers for the pc, but since I sit directly in front of my laptop, and given the mixed reviews of the wireless receiver, I want a wired controller.

So, I went to EB games today and there were a bunch of 3rd party ones. Will these work on a PC? Which are the decent 3rd party 360 controllers? Should I just stick with the MS version?

I was hoping to find a wired one on kijiji, but those suckers are uncommon used.

The official wireless 360 adapter works flawlessly. I've had mine since 2006 and have never had a problem or hiccup.

That being said...if you must have a wired option: why not just use one of your existing 360 wireless controllers + the official play and charge USB cable? Exact same thing as a wired controller. It's a $20 solution and you get a "bonus" rechargeable battery. IMO...stick with 1st party hardware.

I tried one from deal extreme which sucks. It just didn't work, at all. Good enough, it's from DX, of course it sucks

I've read online people having trouble with the MS wireless adapter depending on which type of usb port its plugged into. some ports apparently don't output enough power.

I didn't think that was the case. I thought the usb only charged it.

Don't get any official microsoft controllers. The D-pad is the worst I have used in decades of gaming.

The wired 360 controller I use on my PC is an arcade stick, but it works fine with the stock drivers that come with windows.

As far as I know the two best non-MS wired options are the Razer Onza, which isn't available yet, and the HORI PAD EX2 Turbo.

MS does sell an official wired 360 controller. You may have to look around a bit for it, but they are out there.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

This information is very much incorrect, the usb only charges it.

He didn't say that. He even asked if he should stick with it, so he certainly wasn't excluding it.

Stick with the official Microsoft product, unless you want a usuable d-pad for emulators and such.

I bought one shortly after the 360 was released for PC use (I waited a year before purchasing a 360) and it's worked just fine on my PC other than the subpar d-pad.

Hmmm so maybe a good question would be which non MS wired pad has the best dpad?

I can find a wired one, but it's shockingly expensive new.
