    Default Greatest CommaVid Game Ever?

I like this company a lot.

I really like their games. So, with reckless abandon, I ask you this difficult question. What's your favorite?

Mine is Room of Doom, which I ultimately named my own little gaming area in our home. It's a pretty unique game, as you'll find with most CommaVid titles, but it's also frantic and continually changing. One of the "sleepers" for the system, IMO.

When I saw this message posted, I thought it was a PARODY of all the "greatest" this and thats on the board right now! What's next, "greatest" Activision patch?

However, it appears you are serious, and I am not one to judge whether any of these games are great (or not great), since I do not own, and have never even played, a single one of these games. And that's actually quite an unusual situation, one that I will correct with a little emulation tonight, and give you my completely unbiased, brand new opinion tomorrow.

Default Doom Doom Doom Doom Doom Doom Doom Doom

Room of Doom, beyond a doubt. The rest don't even come close!

If there was a real Room of Doom, it'd have to be were I work - trapped in a secured room were you have no idea what is happending in the outside world.

    Default comma vid

Well I played the games listed last night except for 3 (Video Life, Magicard, and Rush Hour...I need to update my 2600 ROMs)

Unfortunately, I found none of the games to be great.

There were two that I felt were a little better than the others. Mines of Minos is a maze game where you leave bombs for monsters to step on; that never makes for a bad game. Its sort of a spiritual predecessor for the HTF PSX game Silent Bomber.

Cakewalk is a suprisingly vigorous game, which reminds me a lot of Tapper, and a little of Klax. Unlike Tapper, you can stop the cakes from coming at you, which is kinda cool and strategic. This game seems a little more polished than the others too, which IMO have a little Data-Ageyness about them.

I cast my vote for Mines of Minos, as it fits the more traditional mode of VCS games with its extremely simple gameplay and its Adventure-like maze.

And what the hell is that thing in Room of Doom supposed to be?

I like how someone voted for Rush Hour. Played alot of Rush Hour have we? The only person I can think of who could truthfully pick that is Len.

    Default oh

Oh, are these roms not available at all? For some reason I thought all VCS roms could be gotten on the net. Then again I guess not, considering how many foreign ones I don't have, such as the world famous blockbuster "Pac-Kong".

@kid ice: Video Life and Magicard have been dumped for quite some time.

Here, check out our hidden Atari 2600 ROMs page. You must be missing some of these.

I love Cakewalk...I always forget about it when we do top 5 2600 lists because I don't own it...I actually held the world record on it for about 2 weeks early last year...I'm still 2nd on the list!!!

And I didn't pick it because I only played it for a few minutes 20 years ago.

I picked Mines of Minos, one of my favorites games for the 2600.

I went with Cakewalk, but Stronghold isn't bad either. Too bad the only way I'll ever play them is through my Cuttle Cart.

    Thanks Joe, I see a bunch I don't have.

I hope all this cryptic stuff has to do with someone finding a shitload of Comma Vid carts, because I've never found a single one of those muthas.

Yeah there should be another poll about how many of you have actually played these games on a 2600? I know all will be revealed in due time, but you got me curious DP.

I had meant to get the CommaVid story online last night but got caught up in some phone calls. Looks like you'll get it all on Friday. It will be worth the wait if you're a 2600 fan!

I personally think John Conway's Life (Video Life was based on this) is a great mathematical simulation.

I used to watch that screensaver for hours when I was in the Unix labs at college. For some reason the game of Life has always fascinated me.
