Neat. I wonder how it'll work. How can you fit now stuff on a DVD? If they find a way hopefully it will be useable on pcs too.
I was hoping to sign up for the beta but it's USA only
I imagine it has to either do with security, how the data is encoded to the disc itself, or some new compression technique.
They're not going to be able to do anything too revolutionary here with existing DVD drives. 8.54 gigs/7.95 GiBs is pretty much it. All they can do is change how the data is presented in that given amount of space on a DVD-9 disc.
About the only other thing I can think of is they're considering double sided disc and want to get our reactions to it and see how well they hold up to wear and tear with a large scale test program? Perhaps single player will occupy one side of the disc with multiplayer the other?
I sure hope not, I hate double sided disc.

Maybe they will try something like the GD-ROM. Maybe double sided discs without flipping the disc over? Maybe they will reintroduce the HD-DVD as an exclusive gaming media format.
